Asteroid 3811 Karma! What a popular topic. I’ve written on this in the past, on the 11th House Blog, but wanted to bring it in to GVA for us to study here.
Astronomy of 3811 Karma
Asteroid 3811 Karma is a main belt asteroid discovered Oct 13, 1953 by Liisi Oterma, a Finnish astronomer at Turku Astronomical-Optical Institute. She discovered over 200 asteroids and three comets, an inspirational women and astronomer of her time. Karma orbits between Mars and Jupiter, taking 4.136 years to make the journey through the Zodiac.
So what is the meaning of this little asteroid and how does it relate to our natal charts?
In the astrological chart, it can be related to ‘consequences’, not in an ‘ouch’ way, but as in results or ‘vibration.’ We’re talking about this, in the Karma Course, but I’ll repeat it here.
Karma is essentially the Law of Attraction. It’s the vibration or pattern of energy we signal the universe to return to us. Like attracts like. As you sew, so shall you reap. I’ve summed it up like this:
The core meaning of karma in your life is not retribution or ‘pay back’ but synchronicity, and alignment.
Astrology of 3811 Karma
Those who have my book Astrology and Aptitude – How to Become What you are Meant to be can read a short delineation to get started. Another way to get to a deeper understanding of 3811 Karma it to look at the origin of the word Karma.
It is Sanskrit, from KARMAN or KAROTI, which means “to do” or “to work”. KARMA is a word and we attach meaning to it in the context of what we know, the usual being gleaned from Hindu or Buddhist “consequences of a person’s actions. Fate. Destiny. . . reaping what you sow.”
But, the word originally referred to the simple act of doing. In taking of action we have the RESULT, the consequences which will change our destiny (what we are creating in our lives.) NOTE: Karma isn’t the destiny, it is the action that leads to our ‘path’ as we walk it. We are deliberate creators. We decide. And with each thought, new worlds come into being.
In this sense, asteroid 3811 Karma is, by house, sign, aspect and transit, about ‘doing that which must be done.’ In the chart there is a kind of fulfillment, a ‘rightness’ when we activate that area of life. When the asteroid is activated in synastry (by another person’s placements) it can be that “the work or actions” of another trips our destiny switch. Being around that person when they are ‘doing’ their Karma could at times bring an epiphany or turning point. A realization. It’s a two way link that joins action with revelation.
Has anyone seen this in chart comparisons or by transit?
My natal Karma is 22 Gemini conjunct Mercury in the midst of my Gemini stellium so it’s hard for me to put my finger on it. I do say to myself things like, ‘I have to write! I have to communicate!’ Perhaps there is something of the ‘doing’ that motivates my Mercury energy. I know a lot of clients and friends, and readers, that have personal planets very close to my Karma/Mercury. Interesting!
In a quick look at synastry charts I noticed that Amelia Earhart (who I did intensive research on for a case study many years back) had Neptune at 21 Gem 33. I was ‘doing’ at lot of work (Karma) on the astrology of her mysterious (Neptune) disappearance . . .
As for Karma and Astro-Carto-Graphy, the town where I have worked harder in my life than anywhere in the past for 30 years has Jupiter exactly opposite my Karma. And there have been BIG (Jupiter) results!
Looking at synastry contacts is very interesting. As in, ‘Will they be ‘hard work’? lol Seriously, as deliberate creators, we wouldn’t want to think that!
Transits from this asteroid can tap us into a feeling of purpose or even ‘fate’, those moments where, out of the blue, life falls into place.
Thoughts? I’d love to know where your 3811 Karma is.
Also check the transits, watching for change of house or exact conjunctions.

I have a 6*Karma in Aquarius conjunct 6*Mercury in the 3rd house. I just discovered that my husband’s 6* Aquarius sun completely fused together with my karma+mercury! Wow!
Synastry: My Karma (born 1994) conjunct his Karma (born 1990)
I was born exactly 1 Karma cycle after him.
We’ve been in a complicated situation (emotional affair) since we stopped being physical over 2 years ago, and I found out just how karmic our relationship is right after our Karma return in February of 2019 (first return since before we met).
My ex forbade him to see me (I didn’t know they ever met) and he continued to text me regularly despite being threatened. Strangely, we both also have 1566 – Icarus (arrogantly flew too close to the Sun) conjunct 3811 – Karma.
Sounds like a complicated and compelling synastry to me!
Hi Kim yes, angel asteroid is so charming, though i have to correct myself since the karma angel conjunction is in the composite with the person involved in the serendipitous event i mentioned, who has his angel on my ascendent. My karma infact conjuncts pallas in aquarius. By the way angel conjuncted chiron on my chiron return’s solar revolution and perhaps that’s why it affected me so much since then.
Hello Kim and many thanks for your writings in general and this one in particular. It is very spot on and enlightening. I have karma conjunct angel and i had a syncronic event about two years ago, that really changed my life in many ways that would be too long to explain. When i saw the chart of the other person involved he has his asteroid angel exactly conjunct my ascendant. Last year i met a person who was an angel to me and she has venus conjunct angel in her chart. From the serendipitous moment occurred about two years ago during my chiron return i was awakened to the presence of angels. Researching in past and present relationships i can often find these angelic links. I met my husband when he lost his brother and i have my angel on his ascendant and i probably helped him at the time. I am sorry for this comment has become an angel one more than a karma one. I hope it helps anyway
Roberta, that’s so interesting. I’ve looked at a lot of asteroids in my chart, but never focused on Angel. For those wanting to look it up, it’s asteroid 11911, named for Roger Angel, “whose work and ideas have resulted in an enormous increase in telescope light-gathering power...” How cool is that!
Mine is 27 Taurus, 3 degrees from my MC and 5 from my sun, exact opposite my Eros.
Thank you for bringing this asteroid to the discussion. I’ll be looking at it in synastry, and progressions.
A Hello from France,
I come to discover your blog, following a search on the asteroid Karma which is currently in Sagittarius and will start its retro phase from April
Wonderful blog, that you have there
I’m glad you found your way here, Lunesoleil. Welcome to GVA!
I didn’t have the chance to take the Karma Course so I’m unsure how these Karma transits are specifically affecting me. I believe that I have an idea though lol. Albeit, I’ll still share 🙂
My Natal 3811 is located in my 6th house of Pisces. Other than 3811, I don’t have any other planets or signs in my 6H. Presently, I’m having quite a few transits: 3811 is conjunct my Natal 11H Sun in Virgo @ 0°25s & conjunct my Natal 11H Mercury in Virgo @ 0°34a, Sextile my Natal 2H Pluto in Scorpio @ 0°19a & Sextile my Natal MC in Cancer @ 0°06a, also Trine both my Natal Saturn and Neptune under 4°orbs. 3811 is also semi-sextile my Libra AC @ 1°25s, all the while with Jupiter transiting my 1H lol.
I hope that everything works out favorably.

Hi ThermoVirgo, is you chart in the gallery? Feel free to post it there so others can see.
The entire Karma, Astrology, Reincarnation and Law of Attraction course is recorded if you do have time to study in the future!
Hi all GVA’ers! I looked into my Karma chart & it is in the 2nd house with Capricorn ruling it. Well this is interesting when I looked at the meanings of it closely. As it is in the 2nd house it is telling me that I must make a lot of money & that I am born to have abundance in my life & also about how important it is to me to have resources. Another aspect of this is that I must have a peace of mind within myself to achieve big things. There’s also a message telling me that to use my talents I need to express in any way I can…well I write erotica’s…so there it is in this case.
When looking at my 3811 Karma in Capricorn there’s a lot to say in this. For one it goes on to explain about me working in both worlds. I do meditation & it does take you out of the real world into the unknown & on some occasions I’ve had out-of-body experiences. There’s also a desire that I must achieve my goals that I set out that I want to achieve – I have been wanting to build a lot of earthly dreams & ambitions as stated in the Capricorn meanings. I have got interests in things to do with mysticism & that is no suprise it’s mentioned for Capricorns which is also telling me that I must explore in that area which is more likely to do with “time-travel”. It is in my highest-good that I learn about time (I have many books in that area). The inner exploration of self, the unconscious is definitely to with me meditating. As I have stated a few times I am doing the Holosync meditation program (will finish this next year in 2018, if I keep on schedule) & I have Paraliminals (NLP) so it is telling me to keep using various meditations to not only achieve my goals but to keep me balanced. With “the unconscious” most likely it is to do with Photo-Reading (PR). PR is to do with studying books with the whole mind using both the conscious/non-conscious mind to achieve a sense of purpose for reading the book. You read by flipping the pages of the book at a much faster rate. Definitely it is telling me that I must use my whole mind to get through life so as to say. When I get the chance to return to university to gain a degree I will use PR rather than traditional reading – but, ever since I did the home-study course-pack & seminar I have ALWAYS used PR rather than traditional reading; it works for me.
Hi TrippleF, that’s a great rundown of your asteroid Karma in the 2nd. Really well described.
What do you think having Neptune in the 2nd, in Sagittarius adds to your core values?
Great work!
Hi Kim/everyone else, to answer your question here’s the run down. To begin let’s look at the 2nd house for me. Most definitely all the meanings apply to me there. For one I feel it is my divine right to have plenty of abundance ($$$) & to have as many resources as possible & with the talents it is telling me about using my writing (I desire to become an eroticist) as a full-time career therefore giving me peace of mind is what I really want (i.e. I want to come out of having a “job”).
When looking at this as whole there are a lot of things I can say in relation to me in terms of my core values. For one I have a burning desire to achieve two main values in my life which are of the utmost importance to me: FREEDOM & INDEPENDENCE. When I think about wanting to go abroad to Canada to study towards a degree that is what it will bring for me. Also another core vale which springs up for me is “connection” as looking into the meanings I have the longing to connect with people who are aligned to me. As some of you know I am doing the Holosync meditation program & I noticed that looking at my chart that I want to achieve oneness through the collective unconscious i.e. using my non-conscious mind. And also I would like to embrace life & explore new & extnesive horizons and not to mention exploring the unknown….I have a burning desire to do this.
The thing about Neptune is, it represents a part of us that isn’t related to the material world. Neptune core values are ‘other worldly’ – imagination, creativity, spirituality, transcendent … In the Earth Houses (or signs, or linked to Earth sign rulers) there is a contrast.
The second house is about material security – Neptune may be the cosmic Santa Clause, but not if the energy is going towards acquisition for acquisition’s sake. Same with the 6th in terms of the body and the 10th in terms of career. There is an inherent clash that has to be resolved.
In terms of Karma – a pattern of attraction brought over from the past – it’s possible that Neptune in an Earth House was too focused on the material so that other values were ignored. The placement insure that some focus has to be placed on what’s behind the veil and not just on offer in terms of materialistic security.
It doesn’t mean there is no chance for abundance. It just means that the desires for it have to be examined.
The opposite is possible too. The pattern from the past may have been to give everything up, take a vow of poverty, or not take responsibility for the material side of life. Neptune in the 2nd guarantees that awareness around material security is not only heightened, but appreciated more. Not taken for granted.
The core values of Freedom and independence sound very much like Sagittarius on the 2nd house cusp, Uranus on the Asc sextile Mercury, trine Venus, and Sun in Leo in the 9th. Neptune comes in ans aspects ALL your personal planets, making a very different energy felt. It dissolves those past patterns, or tries to, and lays new landscapes for being. I am sure some of those landscapes are found in your attraction to meditation, writing and other creative, ‘behind the veil’ pursuits.
The trick is to not engage in those activities to ‘make something happen’ in the material world. Material results may follow, but not if they are the goal. It has to be the art for art’s sake. The communion for spirit’s sake. The action that is called ‘karma yoga’ for the sake of the whole. Ego is taken out of the picture.
Not always, of course. But in the realm of Neptune, it’s about gratitude and compassion (which automatically takes ego out of the picture when you engage these feelings).
Can you feel these contrasting arrows of desire?
Thank you for the call and for this course! It has honestly changed so much for me!
It’s great how Sarah said that she had made big changes in her career as a result of this course as this is also mostly where I’ve been focused. (Ah, I see that we are born two weeks apart in the same year, but Sarah is Aries rising while I am Libra … is this so Libran that I’m always comparing myself to others on here? :))
I have been making great progress in positive thinking which means that I have dared to gamble a bit in work. I have been focusing only on what I really want to do for a living and said no to some work I only do for money. Money has been a big theme for me too – asking for it and feeling that I am worth it. One of the exercises that really has made a difference for me is Telling a New Story. I am so grateful to you, Kim and Jeannette, for showing me that. I now believe that I have the power of choice to do what I want. I feel lighter, less serious, and like I want to enjoy life. My intense and stubborn Mercury in Scorpio 2nd house is still zapping me of course, but I’m also using its energy more positively. The talk about the nodes and amazing posts from you, Kim, opened my eyes to where I want to go – and to the unresolved feelings tied up in my south node Capricorn… bringing me to asteroid Karma in Capricorn in 3rd house conjunct IC!
I think my lesson here is to do with letting go of some control and seriousness. Be more playful (3rd house), more intuitive (NN in Cancer). I can still be ambitious, but on my own terms/own turf (conjunct IC). And obviously karma has something to do with Mercury for me – it kept popping up on this course… hmm.

I really look forward to next course! Will you send an e-mail out about it?
All the best! X
Caritas, I am so delighted to hear how much this course has meant to you, and the changes you are experiencing. It’s great work you have done, implementing the ideas and insights. And yes, Telling a New Story can be a huge shift. Just realizing the old story starts things off, but when you actually tell yourself something new, more aligned with your core values, what a difference it makes.
The next course will be announced in an email and no doubt a new post on the topic. Also, the align with the stars call is June 20th, so circle that date.
It’s great to have you here at GVA. Thanks for all your contributions!
Thank you Kim for mentioning this asteroid. I did a little research and found that my natal Karma is at 0’32” Scorpio (3rd H) trining natal Mercury at 0’13’ Cancer (11th H). Not aware how to work with it yet but given that my ways of expressing are writing, teaching, etc I will reflect more on it and the challenges I experience in these areas.
I would also think it went over our 29 Leo Ascendants mid to end May (?) which may be an additional reason for further reflection.
Karma crossed over 29 Leo in the third week of October 2016. The asteroid has been going direct and Rx through the first 17 degrees of Virgo ever since, getting back to 2 degrees in April before going direct again. So very close.
I’m checking dates, but I think Oct was quite significant!
Thanks for posting.
Thank you Kim. Yes, October was significant, had just returned from Europe, didn’t know yet what to do but through synchronicity jumped into learning tools for seemingly new direction/expression of my work. However what started back then including the learning curve and excitement, seem to have dissipated in late April-early May.
This is so interesting, your observations on the reversed nodes in Cancer and Capricorn. I can relate, with my NN in Cap too!
And yes, with your Mom, I think the mother-daughter dynamic is the pattern. Sun/Saturn is anther ‘Capricorn’ energy, and on your NN makes me think that it’s your time to be the nurturing one. (though that is challenging for a child who wants to, naturally, be a kid). I think her Neptune on the S Node, and square your Moon makes you VERY sensitive to her feelings and emotions. As I child, it would have been hard to distinguish between what she felt and wanted, and what you felt. Also, as you describe, there is a feeling of being responsible for, or causing, her joy, and her sorrow. That is a lot to carry. And a lot to ‘give up’ as you allow here to be responsible for herself, now that you are grown up.
Thanks again for these examples!
Ah interesting that you’re on that Moon node axis too!
Thanks you so much for your considered reading of me and my mom’s synastry! I’m seeing her today. I’ll try to go in with a more observant attitude. 🙂
I’m sorry that I couldn’t join in on the call – and say hi to everyone “in person”. I look forward to listening as soon as I can. x
Eh the last comment about my mom sounded really flippant. I meant that I’ve been having a hard time with her since I had my son, because she is as emotionally demanding as before and I have less energy.
Thanks, Caritas. I totally understand!
Hello all!
Thank you for this and the synastry call, Kim. I haven’t posted my finding on that yet, but looking at asteroid Karma now has brought it all nicely together!
I see that my boyfriend’s and my Karma conjunct each other’s Jupiter! So I interpret that as that we encourage each other’s karmic growth. This chimes with our synastry in general, which I find is heavy on mutual ‘guidance’. His Sun (which is completely unaspected in his natal chart!) conjuncts my Chiron. I often feel like we are each other’s therapists – so much painful exploration. On outer planets as was covered in the call, my Venus conjuncts his Neptune – compassion and selfless love, perhaps. And my Saturn conjuncts his Uranus – which I see as more challenging: I temper his independence. Then we have this odd exact conjunction of the nodes swapped: His north node conj my south etc. The nodes are merely “portals”, right? I am unsure how to interpret this, but it could again mean that one person’s past experience can guide the other person to where they need to be. It could also mean that we are moving in different directions…
http://goodvibeastrology.com/upg/caritas-and-partner-synastry-chart/
As I wrote before, I noticed that the north node transited my Sun at the birth of my son. I am wary to look at his chart again, so I won’t post it here. Very interestingly though my mother’s Sun (and Saturn) is also conjunct my north node! Wow! So there is a destiny-feeling about the mother-child connection. Extra cool is it that my mother’s Moon is conjunct my south node! Like she also played a motherly role for me in a past life? Since I had my boy I can’t really stand my mother, so it’s heavy to look at our synastry…
http://goodvibeastrology.com/upg/caritas-and-frances-mother-synastry-chart/
With your mother, I understand. You aren’t being flippant or dismissive of her, but it is challenging!
That is some powerful synastry with your mother. If nothing else, see if you can appreciate her as someone who has been around you for a LONG time. Saturn and Sun on the NN means she could teach and inspire you towards a new expansion/evolution in your life. There is something about ‘dealing’ with your relationship with her that can really bring in the realizations, and success.
Her Moon on your S Node, she could have been your Mother in the past and she’s now having trouble ‘letting you go’ as you become a mother in your own right.
Also consider that maybe you were HER mother and she feels abandoned. Of course that is not conscious, but a pattern buried in the past.
We’ll talk more about ways to release these kinds of patterns on the next call, but awareness, without judging it, is the way to start.
When you are 9 or so years apart in age with someone, your nodes will be reversed and it dose have a lot to offer the relationship. You can see where they are headed, because you’ve been there, and visa versa. It can help create balance, or at least know what that balance might look like.
It’s not so much different directions but having something to offer each other. Think about what houses are involved. It’s your 4th and 10th, but is that his 5th and 11th? It’s good to see both charts to spot this.
And, fascinating, isn’t it?
Thanks, Kim!
About my Mom, I think there are definitely issues around her feeling abandoned – as well as me letting go of feeling responsible for her. She has often given me the impression that she didn’t think I should have children – in a kind of feminist “don’t do like me and ruin your career by having children” – way (thanks Mom). Also, I remember many instances when I was very young where I was not allowed to be childish, because “it hurt her feelings”. This has made me feel painfully responsible for her well-being. So yeah, perhaps I was the mom before. Phew, awareness…
About my boyfriend, I think what you describe about the swapped nodes does fit our relationship. It is really each of us cheering for the other and offering guidance. Because the lessons we need to learn are very different, it makes me, at least, feel supported stepping into the big unknown of the north node. Actually, we have spent most of our relationship being extremely challenged by each other. (But life is also sweet because of his sense of luxury and wicked humour. :))
Interestingly, becoming a mother set me on a course of nurturing others whereas becoming a father often torments my boyfriend with guilt – especially when he’s working. This may be the most obvious difference between us on the Cancer-Capricorn axis.
His NN is in 3rd, SN 9th. It’s interesting to think what his SN lessons and experiences were – Cancer in 9th house (and what can *I* learn from them? lol). Maybe he was Rousseau. 😀
I think my NN path Cancer in 10th house is more hands-on than his SN Cancer in the 9th…
