Hi Everyone. I thought it would be fun to revisit the path to the final dispositor.
A dispositor is a planet that rules the sign another planet is in. The Final Dispositor is just like is sounds, where the buck stops. You can follow the trail of any chart and see where it leads.
Ready to follow the path? In the image above, (based on the chart below) starting at the bottom, Pluto is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn. Saturn is the dispositor of Pluto.
Saturn is in Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is the dispositor of Saturn.
Jupiter is in Libra, ruled by Venus. Venus is the dispositor of Jupiter.
Venus is in Pisces, ruled by Neptune and Jupiter. Neptune is the dispositor of Venus (and Venus and Jupiter are in each other's signs, aka mutual reception.)
Neptune is in Pisces, ruled by Neptune.
Moon is in Leo (today) ruled by the Sun. The sun is the dispositor of the Moon.
The Sun and Uranus are in Aries, ruled by Mars. Mars is the dispositor of both.
Mars is in Taurus, ruled by Venus. Venus is the Dispositor of Mars.
Venus is in Pisces, ruled by Neptune. Neptune is the dispositor of Venus.
Q. Can you see where all paths lead and which planet is the Dispositor or the chart?
A. Neptune as the planetary 'final dispositor' means the mystical god of the sea has the final say. See this as a chance to glimpse behind the veil. When you open your mind to the magic of the universe, that which was inanimate comes alive. There is a message there if you stop for a moment and listen.
Note: Dispositors are not used by all astrologers though I find them very insightful, especially from a Law of Attraction perspective. The dispositor of a planet can help pinpoint what things boil down to. Following the path can reveal a major key to the eternal goal: Know Thyself, super helpful in a deliberate creator's evolution.
Another interesting thing to do is find the final dispositor of your Asc. It adds new meaning to 'chart ruler'.
Those taking the "Karma Course" will want to follow the trail of dispositors of their 12th house ruler.
If this is all new to you, don't rush. Take your time to memorize the planetary dignitaries/rulers. Here are the signs and their ruling planets for reference. Also, check out our PDF on Planetary Dignities.
Aries - Mars
Taurus - Venus
Gemini - Mercury
Cancer - Moon
Leo - Sun
Virgo - Mercury
Libra - Venus
Scorpio - Pluto (Mars)
Sagittarius - Jupiter
Capricorn - Saturn
Aquarius - Uranus (Saturn)
If you have your own chart in front of you, have a go at working out your final dispositor. You might end up with one, or several, or a mutual reception feedback loop (for example I have Moon in Aquarius and Uranus in Cancer so those two are in a continual strange loop, but the rest of my chart boils down to Mercury in Gemini).
Think of your final dispositor as having more strength and purpose in the chart. Their message, what they symbolically need and want and have to offer, can be more important to us than we might first think. Bottom line, when we honour them, life moves forward in a more authentic direction.
Are you sailing with this wind, or against it? Work out your final dispositor and see.
Shout out in the comments if you get stuck or need a hand.
I've had several emails asking what happens when there is more than one final dispositor, or an endless feedback loop of two or more planets. Here's an example from the lovely Mhr. Let's take a look.
In this case, the Moon is its own final dispositor, Saturn disposes everything else by traditional rulership and Sun and Uranus are in a mutual reception (each others sign) loop. Venus by modern ruler is disposed by Sun/Uranus loop AND by Saturn.
We would say that in the emotional realm, the inner world, the Moon in Cancer is very strong. She's super sensitive, aware of others moods, remembers every feeling, and is introverted when it comes to expressing those feelings. (Sun in 4th concurs but look at that Uranus in 10 - pulling at the sun, squaring the Asc - v. extroverted on some level. Career needs to be 'out there', emotions do not. Private.
Then there is Saturn, disposing (traditionally) everything else. More focus on ambition, accomplishment, becoming self-sustaining and individuated.
The mutual reception acts as a circuit breaker if the Moon is too attached to the past, or sun in 4th too attached to family. The Sun and Uranus can swap places, the sun shining in the 10th via individuation, independence and career recognition while Uranus cuts ties with family IF they are holding her back from her own path.
This is just a brief and isolated look at Final Dispositors, but hopefully it gives you an idea of how these rulers can play out in the chart.
Thank you Mhr for the question and putting your chart up.
P S Happy Mercury Rx!
Hi Everyone, Let's talk about Venus Rx 2017.
Listen in to the one hour call on Venus Rx with live examples.
Links to example charts and CHAT notes here.
Venus Rx is short hand for Venus Retrograde. It means that, from the perspective of the earth, Venus is transiting backwards through the zodiac, in this case from 13 Aries back to 27 Pisces. This phenomenon happens about once every 18 months and is part of the cycle of Morning Star and Evening Star, ie, when Venus makes her switch. Read all the details on the Synodic Cycles of Venus. There is a quick video tutorial. Check how Venus creates the five pointed star in her travels around the sun.
Jeannette and I are hosting a live call on Venus Rx, March 7th, 2017 at 5pm Eastern. We'll talk about the ins and outs of Venus, and retrograde planets in general, focusing on 'where' this is happening in your chart.
If you join in, we can look at your chart live, and take questions.
Check the Align with the Stars Calls schedule for details.
You want to go back to Taurus - the sign that knows what she wants. Joanne Whickenberg says, "When Venus is retrograde, it operates through Libra, so you look to others to give you a sense of your own personal worth. This generally doesn’t work, so you then have to go back and do the Taurus thing." To me, that means finding out what you really want, without prompting from others.
Are you doing what you love, or saving fun for a rainy day? Everyone benefits from reflecting on that right now.
Be open to seeing or hearing from people from your past, including exes. What have we learned?
As astrologer Caroline Casey always says, retrograde planets are like the arrow and the bow. The more you pull back, the further the Arrow will fly. That means if you take the TIME to reflect and refresh, restore and re-balance, during the Rx cycle, the stronger impact your intentions and desires will have as they shoot out into the world.
With that in mind, take this time to honor Venus in your chart, and where she is transiting by house (more details explored on the call). All things ruled by Venus, from desires to sensuality, relationships to money, are good places to start. See house by house tips below, but basically:
Reassessing your core values, partnerships and self-love habits bring the best results.
Remodeling (home makeover, website makeover, garden and landscaping, unless you've been planning prior to January 30th).
Decisions about long term relationships (note: do drop any toxic relationship if you are 100% clear on the toxicity. Otherwise, wait until Venus Direct to take actions - same goes with getting back together with exes).
Decisions about short term relationship
Go further into debt
Go through your closet and throw out or giveaway old clothes, but resist the urge to buy new ones just yet. Facials and body care are in, radical changes in hair color or length, or any cosmetic surgery is best put on pause. You want to reflect on your shop window, how you present yourself to the world, not change it completely.
Take time out to reflect on your finances, what's in the bank and also the ways and means you support yourself. How are you moving towards self-sufficiency? Redo your core values list and ponder what has changed. Self worth? Ruminate now; act later. The urge will lean towards extravagance. Definitely put the credit cards away, at least until mid-April.
Connect to your consciousness, what you think, and that you think you think. How do you communicate your true self? Are you saying it like it is, or like you think they want to hear it? Are you true to yourself, or false? Let your sibling, or part-way related ppl into your awareness more. Tune into any persistent relationship patterns you have with yourself - self talk?
Family relationships, home ground and emotional security are everything right now. But, avoid putting energy into home repairs as a displacement for being with family members, listening to them, connecting resolving. If some of these relationship are old patterns, or toxic, keep your boundaries, and take action with Venus Direct. Parental issues? Get more sleep.
Revisit old creative projects that have been sitting on the shelf. Have you a neglected idea that wants to come to life? Enjoy time with kids, or those young at heart; avoid deciding on new creative ventures, new babies, new love life. Review feelings for what you have experienced in the past. Get in touch with your heart.
Tap into your core values around body, body love, health, nutrition and well being. Fitness? Strength? Fix old things (like dental cavities or leaky dog house). Save new work, if possible, for May or later. Any rituals around Venus and your desires are potent now, but check into core values before you ask for something you don't really want.
This is your time to release old patterns when it comes to relationship. Reflect on what you love about partnership, not so much 'who' but the feelings and experiences that light you up. It's the perfect time so release toxic connections, letting them float away. Pause to consider any open enemies. What do they represent in you? Why are they in your life? What can you learn?
Joint finances and resources, money owed and owing, come to the foreground. Check into your core values around collaboration, sex, and deeper motivations for your connections with others. Hold off on radical change, declarations, adventures and commitments. This is a time to re-evaluate, not rebuild, yet.
This is a great time to dream big, explore ideas, expand beliefs, but realize you won't be acting on them yet. Travel and higher edu might feel like it's on pause, which is perfectly fine. Instead of chomping at the bit, take this time to explore what you want through imagination. The bigger you dream, the more territory you'll create once Venus goes direct.
Career goals are up for evaluation, along with your relationship to the public. If you play a PR game, this will be a significant time of considering what works, what's worth keeping and what to let go. You always hang on to what's authentic. Experiment, test, but hold off on big sweeping changes for now. Prepare for insights into how others see you.
This is where friendships come into play. You may connect with those from the past, and revel in how much you have both changed, or stayed the same. Your relationship to groups, leading and being one of the many, rise up, so take a reading of where you stand. What's true for you. It's also great to explore your goals and wishes for the future. Again, dream in what you desire.
In the 12th house we meet what sustains and/or undoes us. Our job is to find and feed the sustaining aspects of Aries (in this case) the independence, leadership. enthusiasm, confidence, bravery, without letting it become arrogant, conceited or tyrannical. With Venus Rx here, we meet others who represent our hidden side, the parts of ourselves we can't easily see. Use this time to give everyone the benefit of a doubt. Find compassion, openness and generosity. This is your relationship with your unconscious ... Dreams are everything.
Remember, Venus Rx supports re-evaluation of what we really want, for ourselves and in our relationships. Give some time over to this task.
See you on the call!

Hi Everyone! I want to draw your attention to the upcoming Void of Course Moon. It will last for 23.5 hours (that's a long one) and offers us a great opportunity to lighten out grip on the wheel, and align with a very easy--slack even--way of manifesting. Think Intentional Resting, Easy World, Slacker-City Manifesting. It's happening in Scorpio, from 18 degrees to 0 Sagittarius, which will give you some hints on WHERE this might be focused for you.
Here are the times:
MOON VOID STARTS @18 SCORPIO
LA– Friday 11.38 am
NY– Friday 2.38 pm
LON – Friday 7.38 pm
SYD – Saturday 6.38 am
ENDS with MOON @0 SAGITTARIUS
LA – Saturday 10.52 am
NY – Saturday 1.52 pm
LON – Saturday 6.52 pm
SYD – Sunday 5.52 am
VOC occurs when the Moon, or planet (any other than the sun which can not go VOC) is PAST the exact degree of its final major aspect or while still in its current sign. The void of course moon is over the moment the Moon ingresses into the next sign. In the case of the upcoming VOC, it completes a sextile to Pluto at 18 Capricorn and then makes NO NEW ASPECTS until changing signs.
In horary astrology, VOC means there is nothing to worry about or nothing will happen. The VOC can last from minutes to hours and is generally considered not the best time to launch new ideas or initiate change. It's a time to allow, feel and float downstream, gathering information and momentum that can be actioned when the moon enters the next sign and is renewed. VOC is, as mentioned above, excellent for meditation, creative musing and matters of the heart. If ever there is a time for SLACKER MANIFESTING, it's on the VOC Moon.
In the 1st Century AD, we find VOC Moon in the natal chart getting a bum rap:
If you find the Moon void of all the planets, none of them aspects it, and none is in the ascendant or aspecting the ascendant, then this native is void of good in livelihood, possesses pain and hardship in the pursuit of what he needs.
- Carmen Astrologicum, 1.12.7
And then, in the 4th Century AD, Thesaurus 1.39, Firmicus says:
There is void-coursing of the Moon whenever it is not applying to any planet, not bodily and not by figure [aspect].
It goes on, through the ages…
To define, Void means empty, nothing, and course is the path of the moon around the earth.
So it literally means ‘empty of influence along the path’ because there is no companionship - no new aspect, until it changes signs.
The question of orb is different in the past than modern times. It wasn’t until the 1970’s that the current definition of Void of Course came in. Al Morrison popularized it then, saying:
The void of course Moon “begins when the Moon in transit makes the last major aspect it will make before it changes from one sign of the zodiac to the next. It ends when the Moon enters the next sign. … You may call it a silly season, or vacation from normal living. Decision making in such periods turns out later to be unrealistic. Creativity diverges into unpleasant directions, improvisations, false starts, error. Business moves fail to generate profits, or meet unexpected difficulties. If you buy any object it usually fails of its intended use. Human judgment is more fallible than usual …
But … that’s not how William Lilly, for example, writing in 1647 defines it. He says:
A Planet is void of course, when he is separated from a Planet, nor does forthwith, during his being in that Sign, apply to any other: This is most usually in the Moon … You shall seldom see a business go handsomely forward when this is so. (CA, p. 112)
So, for Lilly, to avoid being void of course the planet has to enter into orb of another aspect either during its separation from its last aspect, or immediately as it becomes fully separated.
He has a table of of ‘orbs’ showing that the void isn’t necessarily over when the moon enters the new sign. It has to apply, within orb, to another body. Note declinations, parallels and contra-parallels count as aspects as does the Part of Fortune. Some count aspects to the nodes and vertex too.
Above Lilly was listing the radius of the orbs and he regarded the “moiety” as half of that radius. By adding the moieties of two planets Lilly calculated the maximum distance those planets could be apart and still considered within aspect of each other.
There is no agreement historically on how long a void might last but we take it from the end of the last major aspect until the ingress into the next sign.
Remember, it's Void of Course because the ‘ship has lost her way’ for a time. In a natal chart, I suggest a natal VOC moon be the perfect candidate for "Slacker Manifesting" all the time.
I invite you all to try a relaxed approach to anything you are creating. Here's the first tip from Abigail Steidley. Read her in full on Jeannette's blog.
I use this approach with everything (albeit not perfectly, mind you! Sometimes I forget and start over-efforting).
It’s the recipe for instant manifestation. I have learned not to put one ounce of mental or physical effort into anything until I have done nothing, ignored it, and listened for ideas. Yes, this is the exact opposite of everything we learned in school.
And then, there's Easy World:
Choosing Easy World invites us to enter a new paradigm, where suffering and struggle are not possible and joy abounds ...
My approach is to simply say, "I live in easy world where everything is easy, especially ..."
I do it once and it's never failed.
Who wants to join me in not lifting a finger to create what we want on this VOC Moon weekend? I'll share my chart and ideas tomorrow.
Feel free to pop in the comments if you have questions, anecdotes, or support to offer.
We'd love to hear from you.
Happy Enchanting Eclipses for February … and by enchanting, I mean life changing, awakening, releasing and actualizing. Your basic adjectives for MAGICAL.
Seriously, this season of the eclipse is shaping up as fabulous energy to leverage your desires. We can actually say, The force is with you.
Not just any old new or full moon!
An Eclipse happens when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up with the ecliptic (the apparent path the sun travels around the earth – this is the geocentric perspective). There are two kinds of eclipses:
The first occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth, cutting off the light of the Sun. This is a Solar Eclipse, and occurs only at the time of a new Moon, when the Sun and Moon form a conjunction near one of the Nodes (meaning it’s on the ecliptic).
The second is when the Earth stands between the Moon and the sun, putting a shadow over the moon, cutting off its light. This is a Lunar Eclipse, and occurs only at the time of a Full Moon, when the Sun and Moon are in opposition, close to the Moon’s nodes.
Here is a quick tutorial about the transits of the moon. At 4 min you can see a visual demonstration of the phenomenon of an eclipse.
For a deeper astronomical understanding of the cycles of eclipses, click on the NASA images.
Back to our enchanting eclipses….
Here are the times of the upcoming eclipses. Just note with the ‘timing’ of eclipses they can be felt 3 days before to 3 days after OR (and this goes into backward causation) 30 days (+ or – 3 days) BEFORE or 30 days (+ or – 3 days) AFTER. We’ll do an entire course on astrology and backward causation this year, if we have the requests).

I’m calling these eclipses enchanting because of the positive, supportive and flowing aspects created on the Lunar Eclipse. You can check out Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus below. These heavy weights of the horoscope are standing by for YOUR instructions, ready and willing to serve. On the Solar Eclipse, Neptune is conjunct the sun and moon, near exact. You can’t get more magical than that!
You do your magical manifesting by putting awareness on 1) what you desire 2) see how it is already here 3) relax, let go and be grateful.
I like to start with WHERE in the chart the eclipse is happening. What house(s). You can look at your natal chart houses, and also the solar houses (see Solar Chart Solutions). They count! As an example, take a look at my natal chart in the gallery below.
The lunar eclipse has the moon on Pluto, conjunct the Ascendant in the 12th house, and sun in the 6th house. I am putting attention on how my (perhaps past life) struggles for power and creative expression were unresolved, effecting my identity, my health and well being and my ability to go about the day to day biz of living. Can you see where I get that?
This enchanting eclipse is inviting me to release (full moon lets go; new moon initiates) any past patterns, especially around creative self-expression. In my solar chart (which puts the sun sign on the ascendant) has the eclipse in the 3rd and 9th, still on Pluto. And here I am, writing to a deadline, working day and night on a project that is bigger than anything I ever dreamed of. There’s opportunity here, to let go and allow.
I’m open to your ideas!
So, let’s put our thoughts in the comments, and hands up if you want to post your chart and talk about WHERE this is happening for you.
Happy Enchanting Eclipses, everyone!

I want to give you an example of asteroid 433 Eros, again, a body I’ve made a special study of over the last 20 + years. To get an idea of how we use Asteroids in Astrology, check this short tutorial - Asteroid Astrology.
And, here is a PDF introduction to Eros in signs, houses and aspect to other planets. With that in hand, you can follow the prompts below to plot 433 Eros in your chart and those of any other natal charts you want to check out. Remember the movie metaphor: Eros is the 'planet' or ACTOR, the sign he's in is his COSTUME. The HOUSE he is in is the set or scene, and the ASPECTS to other planets is the script he's reading.
If any of this is confusing, shout out in the comments.
1) At astro.com input chart data then click to select “Extended Chart Selection”
2) Scroll down to add asteroids and input 433
3) Create chart and view the asteroid 433 Eros placement. Notice what house number he falls in, and what sign. Again, shout out if you get stuck. Everyone in this community is happy to help.
For my final mystery chart offering, we have a very interesting man. Study where you see Asteroid 433 Eros in his chart below and discuss when, where, how and why passion awakens for this person. You can have a stab at it based on house, sign and perhaps that other planet that’s conjunct, right next door.
Refer back to the glyph tutorial if you get stuck with the symbols. Asteroid 433 Eros is written out at astro.com, but the glyph for this asteroid is a heart with an arrow through it, of course! Have fun!
Your delineations of the Eros (passion) in the 12th house of the dreams, collective unconscious and spiritual service, in the leadership sign of Aries, conjunct the liberator Uranus square the ambitious and pragmatic Saturn in the house of religion . . . they’ve really moved me. So spot on. Thank you everyone who explored this chart.
Now look at it in “hind sight” knowing who it belongs to. Martin Luther King Jr.
This man had a dream indeed . . . I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. A dream he (and Malcom x) knew they would die for.
He inspired millions with his fearless, articulate, arousing, passion. You can say he became a mouthpiece for a collective moment. It doesn’t get more erotic (in the ancient Greek sense of the word) than that.
Where is 433 Eros in your chart? Let's discuss in the comments!
Asteroid 1566 Icarus, orbiting between Mercury and Earth, is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn for the first time since Dec 2015 (see ephemeris below. Icarus is also 'out of bounds'). Taking 409 days to journey through the zodiac, this conjunction can manifest as a desire to take a leaps - right off the edge!
Whatever feels like it's holding you back is your launchpad. Your springboard. From that discontent, you move forward in one, huge, blind leap.
But wait! Isn't Mercury there too, turning retrograde for the next three weeks?
Yes, and even though you may find a creative ‘way out’ of a perceived limitation or obstacle, you'll be rethinking the moves as we roll into 2017.
But that's okay!
You might conclude it was the perfect step to take, or there could be some course correction. Either way, the impulse is to ‘fly free’ will allow your spirit to soar and your life to change for the better.
Icarus was Daedalus’s son who, ignoring his father’s warning not to fly too close to the sun, lost his feathered wings, fell to the sea and drowned. Not a very successful outcome, though he did escape the prison tower they’d been in for way too long. Some people associate Icarus with a kind of crash and burn mentality. He's like The Fool in the Tarot, not looking where he is going, foolhardy and reckless.
I see this energy as freedom. Expansion. Liberation!
True, 1566 Icarus on Pluto can represent some extreme measures, feelings and insights but mainly it represents an attempt to escape intolerable situations. It is the impulse to get out of unfair circumstances, or go for liberating goals that others might say are impossible. Note: It doesn’t have to always end ‘badly’.
Icarus energy set free can be vivid, creative inspiration. Trapped and he is like a wild bird caged. Ever had that feeling?
It’s like an crazy urge to run like hell when all they’ve said is, sign here, or pick you up at 7, or maybe even I do . . .
Icarus with Pluto is a chance to gain a deeper insight on the ‘flight’ side or our fight or flight response. Where do you feel like flying the coop? Is it fear or instinct or healthy self-awareness?
Take a moment to think about it over the next few days and eliminate a toleration or too. Why? Because tolerating something is not always a virtue. It can be a heavy energy drain. (Read more about Granting Freedom from Tolerations.)
Here’s what Jeannette Maw has to say about it:
Toleration: To tolerate something means to “allow the existence of, to permit or endure or put up with something.” This implies that the something (or someone) is less than ideal and tends to drain a person’s energy. Thus, a toleration is often a hindering influence to the vibration.
Leverage the Icarus/Pluto energy and Toss out Tolerations now!
If any of you know where Icarus is in your natal chart, feel free to mention it here. Mine’s exact on my descendant – the cusp of the house of relationship. A freedom lover if there ever was one.
Have a great weekend!
We're here with a tut asteroid astrology, basically the Named Asteroids, what they are and how we can use them in our charts.
Here is a quick Youtube tutorial to get you started, or refreshed.
There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids, more named every day. They are found between the Sun and Earth, Venus and Jupiter, and Saturn and Neptune. Then there are the KBO’s beyond Pluto and now, with the discovery of Sedna, possibly myriad more Ort Could objects taking over a thousand years to orbit the sun. If we plot them all in the natal chart, it would be filled in, blacked out.
The trick of working with asteroids, especially the 'name' asteroids is to be selective.
You want to choose those significant to the immediate question or investigation. If you're looking at relationship, for example, asteroid Eros, Psyche, Amor, Sappho, Cupido and Adonis are interesting to added, and others as well. And the 'name' of your beloved, or cute-curious new meet. You can use thir first name, surname or nickname.
Mostly they will show up as red flags, highlighters of talents, connection, or indications of interest.
With the mythic names, for example, if Hephaestus is conjunct the Sun, there could be an interest in craft, black-smithing and working with hand tools. If asteroid Shakespeare is conjunct the fifth house cups, work in the theater, play-writing or acting could be a form of creative expression. Hygiea conjunct the Moon could indicate working in women’s health. Icarus to Mercury might write or defend freedom of speech.
If your new love interest's name is conjunct the Sun, she/he might feel like a golden ray of light. Conjunct your Saturn and you might be wondering if they are ever away from work long enough to connect. Considering a new business partner? Put their name asteroid in your chart (and check by transit and progression) for hints on where they meet you. Is it 10th house biz, 11th house group collaboration, 6th house mind-body-spirit, 12th house mystery or maybe secrecy?
Go to Astro.com and click on your natal chart.
Scroll down to Extended Chart Selection.
Scroll down to Asteroid name/number.
Check the box of the asteroids you want to see in your natal chart.
Exit list and 'click to show the chart'.
Below is a quick example of the name asteroid Briggs in my natal chart, conjunct Mercury and in the 10th. This is the name of a man I married. We met on the job and had a very verbal, student-teacher dynamic (I was not the teacher at that point in time). Briggs is also the surname of my son who I have collaborated with on both music production projects and novels.
Also interesting in the above, asteroid Jason is conjunct the sun and I will say I've have more than my fair share of energy with that name in this lifetime!
Give it a go in your own natal chart, or any celeb etc you want to play with (like where the name asteroids fall for those the asteroid was named for.)
Questions and insights welcome in the comments.
See you there.
PS. Another way to do it is go to the online Asteroid Ephemeris and type in your favorites as transits (the day's date) or on your birthday (for the natal positions) and then plot them in your chart.

The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like. Basically, we get what we vibrate, and astrology can help us understand exactly what it is we are vibrating. That's what's authentic and what's not. The astrological map is a very cool look into the depths of a person, a way to 'know thyself', especially when it comes to intercepted signs.
For everyone studying this symbol system, you may have come across the term, 'intercepted signs'. I've been getting emails asking to explain this phenomenon in more detail. Here we go!
The astrological chart is a map of the planets, sun and moon as seen from earth at the moment you were born. It consists primarily of PLANETS representing an inherent energy, the SIGNS indicates how the energy most naturally expresses, the HOUSES or environments where the energy is most at home expressing and the ASPECTS, the angular relationship between the planets.
Think of it as if the planets are the actors, the signs their costumes, the houses, the sets and the aspects the scripts. When it comes to intercepted signs, we are looking at hidden sets or stages and costumes we didn’t know we had! Here are some helpful definitions.
A sign that is completely contained within a house and does not appear on either cusp. See image for reference.
A planet that is intercepted within a house (it is in a sign that does not appear on either house cups.
A sign that appears on two consecutive house cusps. (This is where a both house cusps fall within the same sign.)
Note: The house system you use can alter both intercepted Signs/planets and Duplicated signs. The equal house system will never have interceptions or duplications. The further you are from the equator, the more you will encounter interceptions and duplications. Intercepted signs and duplicated signs always occur in pairs of opposites. This is an axis—what happens to one sign will always correspond identically to its opposite.
You'll find as you study that interpretations in textbooks vary. I learned my approach from Joanne Wickenburg and find her view most helpful for those trying to understand what this means for them and what they attract in their lives.
Think of the intercepted sign as a "room within a room". You enter the house (the stage or area of life) in a certain way only to discover there is a whole other experience there. For example, if you have Aquarius on the 7th house cusp (relationship to others) and Pisces intercepted within the 7th house, you may have an eccentric, unconventional and somewhat spacious approach to partnership (Aquarius) until you really get into one. Then it is like discovering a whole new world where those intellectually defined Aquarian boundaries melt into a sea of divine longing (Pisces). Where did that come from?
That’s how it feels, like a foreign country…until you understand it.
I’ll post more detailed examples in part two. If anyone wants to put their hand up to use their chart, let me know in the comments.
Here is the chart of a mystery person. Let's see what we can glean about them looking at the interceptions alone.
This mystery man (chart above) is a great example of the relationship between environment and intercepted signs/duplicated houses. It’s not so important to try and guess who he is (you will all recognize him soon enough) but better to play with how you think the interceptions weave into his life.
To approach this chart, look at the ways and means he might enter the houses where there are interceptions. What would that be like? What are his immediate needs as per sign on the cusp? Then, explore what might be discovered once in that house. What does the TARDIS look like, from the outside? From the inside? Image you are walking into that room with the theme of the sign on the cusp but you discover this closet (the intercepted sign) and as you explore it, a whole new world opens up.
And remember, the early environment may not have supported the needs of the intercepted sign, let alone living it out. What has to change? Check the duplicated signs for insights too!
Work with this chart, and your own, asking the same questions. If you don’t have intercepted signs in your chart or an example from your own files, dive in and explore what others are posting. If you can link to your chart, all the better. This is, to me, a visual art. Let’s look at the horoscopes and let the symbols do their magic!
NOTE: If you’re stumped in finding interceptions, remember there are 12 signs of the zodiac and 12 houses. If you see two houses in a row with the same sign, then somewhere in the circle, there are two signs that do NOT have a houses cusp of their own. Start with Aries and go counterclockwise around the wheel. Does each house cusp has a unique sign? If not, who is missing out.
This might be controversial, but Arnold Schwarzenegger is a hero of mine. For a particular reason – his powers of taking an imagined vision and turning it into reality, even when there is absolutely no reason to ever believe it would be possible.
However you feel about the man, he’s a great example of the ENVIRONMENTAL factors of an interception and how moving out of the limiting environment can open doors. You have to have the moxie to jump through them, and Arnold does.
Mr Schwarzenegger, Austrian-American actor, model, producer, director, activist, businessman, investor, writer, philanthropist, former professional bodybuilder, and politician started at ground zero. Minus zero. His father was a cop who hated him, favoring the older brother. He was abused and raised to believe he had no value. Under a severe and critical home live, there were no expectations that he would accomplish much of anything at all. Career wise, his mother hoped he would be lucky enough to be a tradesman/person.
Moving away from his 4th house home and 10th house social expectation was not easy, but as soon as he did, the impossible became a reality: Mr. Universe, opportunities in the state, Hollywood.
He was able to imagine (Pisces) and create in the face off all odds (Aries) like few people have ever done.
For example, after his first film tanked (his English was so bad it had to be dubbed), he was interviewed and the journalist said, “Now that Hollywood is a no go, what are your plans?”
He said, “I am going to be the number-one box-office star in all of Hollywood.”
The journalist laughed until he realized Arnold was serious. “How will you do that?” he asked.
“It’s the same process I used in bodybuilding,” Arnold explained. “What you do is create a vision of who you want to be, and then live into that picture as if it were already true.”
Can you see how the victimized Pisces MC morphed into a truly creative, audacious, Aries that then made him one of the most recognized men in his genre/field? Can you see how duplicated Leo on the second (talents, resources and values) put into the communication 3rd (English as a second language, expression) gave him the confidence and the credentials to move forward with his big screen career and on to teaching and his political office?
The second Terminator was the number-one box-office hit. He was dead right.
There is so much more about this man’s life that can be explored via the interceptions (transits to the intercepted signs! That Neptune Libra in the home/secret relationships . . . )
Intercepted signs are not always this dramatic, but moving out of the cultural/home/family limitations/expectations is often the key to unlocking the power behind them. There is a link here to the notion of 'Karma' as well, which we will go into, in deltail, in our first course of 2017.
More examples on Interceptions. Please post comments here.
“Hasta la vista, baby”!
Welcome the final Mercury retrograde cycle of 2016. It officially begins December 19, 2016 and ends January 8, 2017, but see the larger zone below. We'll be talking about this on the December Align with the Stars Call, and here, in the comments. For more depth on planetary retrograde cycles, check this short youtube tutorial.
The best approach to Mercury Rx is to review, reconsider, reflect, remake, rewind, redo, and reveal in alignment with the houses Mercury Rx is transiting. This means checking where 28 degrees of Sagittarius to 15 Capricorn lies in your natal chart. Are there any planets or points there? It may well cross two houses. Check that as well.
Mercury is Out Of Bounds for much of the Rx cycle. In what way will you push your communications, within yourself, and with others? For more on planets out of bounds of declination, check the post on Parallel Aspects.
By reflecting on the area(s) of life indicated by Mercury's apparent backward motion, you can make the most creative use of this transit.
Here are some hints on what each house represents. Need help creating your chart and finding where Mercury is traveling? Put your hand up in the comments and we'll take a look.
This is where you want to contemplate, rethinking your previous ideas, approach or beliefs.
1st house - Appearance, personality traits, outlook on life
2nd house - $$$, resources, talents, peace of mind
3rd house - Teaching, learning, writing, talking, connecting
4th house - Home, family, ancestors, emotional ground
5th house - Creative expression, offspring (books/kids etc), romance
6th house - Health, pets, daily routine, magic
7th house - Socially significant relationships, contracts
8th house - sex, death, taxes, shared resources, trust
9th house - New horizons, travel, beliefs, WWW
10th house - Career, mission, profession, public relations
11th house - Friends, goals for the future, groups
12th house - unconscious, dreams, giving and receiving, meditative states
Remember Mercury Retrograde is not a time to push forward until you reTHINK your goals and actions. AFTER the 8th of January, the energy starts to free up and move forward at a better clip, but the Zone is from December 1, 2016 to January 27, 2017.
This starts on December 1st (EST). Of course you still move forward with projects, ideas and proposals, but you do it with more awareness. Think: willingness to change.
The trickster comes along when we are stuck, feeling trapped, or out of touch with authenticity of SELF. When we get into such a state, sooner or later the Trickster will blow the doors and windows open so we can breathe fresh air again.
In the sign of Capricorn, the trickster turns our deepest, most powerful ambition upside down, so we can get ourselves correct.
Where is this happening in your chart?
See Align with the Stars December Call for details.

We will be talking about Mercury Retrograde – December 19th to January 8th – between the degrees of 28 Sagittarius and 15 Capricorn. This is the area of your chart we will explore, finding the best ways to leverage this Rx energy.
I wanted to look at Solar Returns in particular right now. This is the birthday chart, the perfect horoscope to read on or near your birthday. You can also to a demi-return at the halfway mark. Today we have an example for both the annual solar return and the demi return.
For everyone, below is a quick review. Skip straight to the examples if you are current and ready to rip.
There are many astrological techniques that take the horoscope beyond its basic natal form. We can do progressions, transits, synastry, draconic, harmonics, composites, directions and more. And, we can do RETURN CHARTS!
A return is a chart drawn for the moment in time a natal planet returns to its exact birth position after completing a full orbit through the zodiac.
The MOON returns about every 28.5 days giving 13 LUNAR RETURNS a year. These charts portray inner and outer events from the perspective of feelings, emotions, security and survival.
Ever wonder why people say “Many happy returns” on your birthday? This is the return of the SUN to its exact birth position! Every 365 days, we have a Solar Return, occurring the day before, of, or after the birth date.
Solar and Planetary Returns
Ever wonder why people say “Many happy returns” on your birthday? This is the return of the SUN to its exact birth position! Every 365 days, we have a Solar Return, occurring the day before, of, or after the birth date.
Solar returns portray inner and outer events based on individuation, the art of becoming who we are meant to be! It is like a preview of coming attractions for the new solar year.
MERCURY (mental and communicative) and VENUS (socially significant relationships and values) also return once a year within a month or so of the birthday.
MARS returns every 2 years. These charts generally reflect work, healthy aggression and basic energy.
The ASTEROIDS(between Venus and Jupiter) vary between 1 year to close to 12 years in their orbits. 433 Eros returns every 1.76 years, and describes experiences of erotic transformation. 16 Psyche returns every 5 years, and is about attuning to another through extrasensory abilities. 4450 Pan, returning every 3 years, is about raw creative energy, carnal drives and “panic” that leads to change. 4 Vesta, returning every 3.63 years, is about devotion, ritual, dedication to beliefs and sex as spiritual transformation.
JUPITER returns every 12 years, and has to do with our search for meaning and purpose, confidence and creative will.
SATURN returns every 28-29 and can reflect our sense of responsibility, maturity and power to build material foundations.
CHIRON and the other Centaurs return about every 51 years or more (for Kuiper Belt objects). Chiron returns are about healing, teaching and the preparation of the hero. How will we be heroic in this later stage of life?
URANUS returns every 84 and connects us with out sense of freedom, audacity and willingness to step outside of boundaries. Neptune and Pluto return every 164 years and 248 respectively. These outer planets do not return in the known span of a human life.
Sedna returns ever 11,000 years or so; clearly not applicable for this technique!Solar, Lunar, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn return charts are the most frequently used, though any return (or demi-return, or phase return) can be valuable. The major planet returns give the broad strokes, the asteroid returns add subtle and fine details.
As in all techniques, practice and experience brings a natural flow and familiarity. Here are some guidelines:
Return charts “last” from the moment of the return (or a bit before) until the following one. If you are doing a Venus return and the planet goes retrograde across the birth position a month later, a new return chart is created. When it goes direct across the birth point, another return is drawn.
Any return chart is read against the backdrop of the natal chart, not in isolation.
Location may be set for the birth place or the current residence. I use the birth place though other astrologers prefer re-location. Experiment for yourself on this.
Consider the orientation of the planet you are returning. A Venus return isn’t going to tell you a lot about meaning, purpose, knowledge and wisdom, but it can indicate social interactions, partnerships and changing values.
Lunar returns are great for feelings, but not so much about responsibilities in the pragmatic world.
Pay special attention to the returns of your chart ruler—the planet that rules the sign on your Ascendant. (I use traditional rulerships for this—Scorpio-Mars, Aquarius-Saturn, Pisces-Jupiter).
1. Look at the overall pattern of the return chart. Is it a splash, indicating diverse interests and activities? Is it a bundle pattern, suggesting a focus of interest in the occupied houses? Check the hemispheric emphasis. How does this correlate to the natal patterns? If the person has a natal sew-saw pattern and has a return chart bowl pattern, how comfortable will they be with it?
2. Look at the orientation of the signs emphasized. What is the strongest modality? Element? Polarity? What’s missing? How does that related back to the natal chart? Someone who has a natal emphasis in Cardinal Fire may have a lot to learn about practicality if the return chart emphasizes Fixed Earth. Take the declinations into consideration too! (And the Dwads)
3. What sign is on the Return Ascendant? That will bring the corresponding natal sign/house to the foreground, giving it first house importance. What houses are occupied? Stelliums? Where does the Natal Ascendant degree fall in the Return chart?
4. Look at the signs on the cusps. They indicate needs and drives and offerings. Aries in the return chart is where we want to start something new. Taurus is where we ground things practically. Gemini is where we get curious and want to learn. Think of each house as an area of life and the sign on the cusp as a symbol of the orientation, needs and wants in relationship to that area of life.
5. Check the aspects in the return chart. A lot of oppositions could indicate the need for objectivity and choices. Trines could coincide with ease or even lack of drive. Squares are struggles that get things moving. Look back at the natal chart to see how the solar return aspects compare. How will a natal Venus/Mars conjunction handle a solar return Venus/Mars opposition?
6. Place the return planets in the natal chart and read as a transit chart, then put them back in the return chart to interpret as the outcome of those transits.
7. Check the Lunar nodes, the house placement of the return planet in both return and natal charts (Sun in solar returns, Moon in Lunar returns etc.), interceptions, the house placement of the ruler of the return chart, both natal and return, any planets rising in the return chart (natal or return) and aspects between the return and natal planets and points. You can also look at the vertex, some Arabic parts, midpoints, asteroids and fixed stars. Keep orbs tights!
First let's look at Janette's Solar Return. What are the first few things that suggest a fabulous new solar year? To start with, what house comes to the foreground? What chart tone? Chart pattern? Rising planets? Me us in the comments to unravel the mystery.
Let's talk about Parallel and Contra-Parallel of Declination aspects.
It's a mouthful, but I have a quick video tutorial to cover the astronomy involved. Don't worry if it doesn't sink in straight away. There won't be a quiz. We'll cover questions in the comments, and focus more on the practical results of having a parallel or contra-parallel aspect.
The Parallel Aspect of Declination is formed between two or more planets with the same declination or distance north or south of the ecliptic. If the planets are both North or both South of the ecliptic, the parallel aspect is read as a conjunction. If they are the same declination but one is North and one is South, then the contra-parallel is read as a 180 degree opposition.
These aspects are strongest when the orb is kept to 1 degree or less, so unlike a square where we allow up to 10 degrees of orb, the parallels are allowed 1 or maybe 1.25 degrees.
Parallels connect planets that may not otherwise be in aspect. They also magnify the intensity of any other aspect between the two planets or points involved. So if you have Mars sextile Saturn AND Mars parallel Saturn, you have a whole lot of Mars/Saturn contact going on.
The best way to get a handle on this is by example so everyone can get out their chart. (You can upload yours in the gallery, if you are a GVA Circle Member or Registered for Open Memberhship, if you want to share, check or discuss.) When you get your chart up you will see a list called 'declination' on the ‘additional tables (PDF)' option. If you are using another program or an ephemeris, look for the list of daily ‘declinations’.
They will look like this: 20°35’27” N (the N is for North. North is also represented by a + and South by a -). Make a list of any planets that are within one degree of declination + or - in your natal chart. If both are + or both – they are parallel. If one is + and the other – they are contra-parallel.
For example I have the Pluto at 23°17’46” N declination and the Jupiter at 23°21′ 7″ N so Jupiter and Pluto are parallel. They form wide sextile aspect by sign, so this parallel is an additional emphasis, pulling them into closer contact. Make sense?
We use the parallel and contra-parallel to discover planetary connections. It's also important in transits.
To demonstrate, here is a list or outer planet declination right now. Check to see if these are in aspect (1 degree orb) to any of your natal degrees.
Also, check your declination list for natal parallels and contra-parallels. They also progress and can be used in return charts, horary, event charts, etc. If you use them in your synastry chart comparisons, you'll find connections otherwise missed.
Give a shout if you want some help. I or other declination savvy GVA'ers will lend a hand.
You can take a screenshot of your declination list from astro.com and post that in the gallery too.
See you in the comments.
Hi Everyone, let's talk about Chiron.
I want to pop some myths on this astrological body, and hopefully show you the deeper meaning of Chrion, so let's get started.
There's no other asteroid identified solely with one, teeny-tiny, aspect of its mythology than Chrion. You all know it. The wound. It's like being remembered for that one thing you did in high school after 3rd period, even when you're a mid-life rocking it entrepreneur or climbing Mt Everest. Today I invite you to take a more holistic view of Chiron and what he represents. I promise, it's not always about the damn wound!
Chiron is a maverick ‘planetoid’ orbiting between Saturn and Uranus. As an astronomical body, he's hard to pin down. Discovered in 1977, Chiron was first labelled asteroid 2060 but later, after brightening by 75% and growing a tail, he was designated a comet. His size is large, his orbit eccentric and he is not alone. There are more and more ‘Centaurs’ being discovered with much the same quirks ( Pholus, Nessus and Asbolus, for example). Chiron now holds the title of 'Planetoid' or dwarf planet, along with Ceres, Pluto and Eris.
It's true. In myth, Chiron had troubles right from birth. His father was Saturn who seduced his mother Philyra. Unfortunately, the seduction was cut short when the lovers were caught by Saturn’s wife. To get away, the king of the Titans turned himself into a horse and ran, but the resultant child was Chiron—a centaur with the body of a horse and the torso of a human.
His mother Philyra took one look at the horse/child and freaked. She begged the gods take him, which they did after turning her into a lemon tree. (there is always a price) Rejected by his mother, ignored by his father and outcast of mortals and centaurs alike, Chiron turned to knowledge and wisdom for comfort.
As a result, he became one of the greatest thinkers and healers of his time. He taught the likes of Achilles, Actaeon and Jason, training them to be ultimate heroes. He was expert in herb lore, astrology and what today would be considered 'martial arts' or the art of war, battle and hand-to-hand. (Chiro is the Latin root word for Hand - think chiropractics!) He created the first gymnasium and was not without love. Chiron married Chariclo, who bore him three daughters, Endeis, Melanippe and Ocyrrohe, who inherited the gift of prophesy.
One small aspect of his mythos is, indeed, the wounding. He was accidentally stabbed by an arrow dipped in the blood of the Hydra (Hercules had perhaps been drinking?). It meant instant death, but because Chiron was immortal, he could not die. So began the well publicized suffering, which lasted until he was allowed to exchange places with Prometheus in the underworld (minus the chains and hungry eagle). It worked out well for all concerned.
Astrologically, when you look at Chrion in your chart, and by transit, I invite you to consider the whole story. Play with the meaning of the archetype: the personal trainer, the life coach, the cheering section and the wise old man, the astrologer, the Zen master, the martial artist (Bruce Lee with his Chiron conjunct Pluto in Leo in the 8th). And yes, the archetype of the wounded healer may have a role too, in making us whole, strong and released from our perspective of suffering.
Chiron is 'the spirit of culture' who passes his knowledge on through the arts of healing, philosophy, astrology, music, martial arts and storytelling. He also symbolizes extreme sports, body building, strength and fitness.
As the brilliant astrologer and journalist, Dennis Elwell says, Chiron instills in us the audacity to attempt!
That's a 180 from suffering victim that I invite you to experience.
To understand Chiron in your own chart, and by transit, first you must 'see' who he is to you. Where you find him in your natal chart is where your personal trainer resides. It's where you can overcome any victim MO and find the audacity to carpe diem, seize the day.
By transit, think of Chiron showing up on your doorstep, asking hard questions about what you have done so far with your life, your strength, your mind, your body, your brilliance.
Task one: Find Chiron in your natal chart and put together a few sentence story about this body by sign, house and aspect. Example: I have Chiron in Capricorn in the 5th house and trine the Sun. I find my greatest cheering section (Chiron) when I take responsibility for my own well being (Capricorn) and express my creative dreams (5th) through my life goals (Sun). OR I get over myself (Chiron tough love) when I become self sufficient (Capricorn) and stop trying to get lovers (5th house) to fulfill my dreams (Sun).
Task two: Find where Chrion is transiting (in 2016 he is between 20 and 24 Pisces - use this online ephemeris to pin it down to exact. What part of your chart (house? planets? Angles) has hired Chiron as a personal trainer/mentor? This is where you show up! Get fit!
For anyone coming up on their Chrion Return this year (where your natal Chiron is between 20 and 24 degrees of Pisces), CELEBRATE! Dare to be different. Allow for that audacity because if you do, it will change your life in magnificent ways. Example - on my Chiron return I left a secure but boring day job to return to university (with almost no income and no guarantees). The process boosted my confidence and gave me an edge that turned a creative dream of being a novelist into an ongoing reality. I was scared at first. Confronted. Way outside my comfort zone . . . and I bless Chrion every day for giving me that audacity to attempt!
Questions? Comments? What have you discovered?
Hi Everyone, Ready to look at the Venus Synodic Cycles? It helps explain the movement from evening start to morning star, as we are about to see with the Rx period in 2017.
Most importantly, we are doing a call on this, March, 7, 5pm eastern. Check Align with the Stars calls for details. We'll be looking at your chart live!
Note, the cycles can seem a little complex, but I hope you embrace the mystery and wonder. It really is spectacular.
Don’t let the word Synodic scare you! It’s Latin for ‘hook up’ or meet, and here we mean the cycles in which Venus is conjunct with the Sun. There is a pattern. An amazing one.
Watch this tutorial on the Transits of Venus for full understanding, definitions, animations and connections. Note: The position of Venus in this video ephemeris and astro clock is 2013-2014, but the concepts remain the same. See below for current position and upcoming retrograde in 2017.
As in the tutorial, Venus is the Morning Star when she rising AHEAD of the sun. She’s seen as the Evening Star when she sets AFTER the sun. For 60 days between retro and direct, she’s in the underworld (Inanna) and we can’t see her at all because she’s so close to the sun, his light obscures her own.
We start the cycle with the inferior conjunction, like a New Moon phase. It happens when Venus is mid-Retro and moving very slowly ‘backwards’. She rises before the sun, and is so close we can’t see her, like a dark moon.
When the sun and Venus are about 10 degrees apart, (Venus rising 10 degrees AHEAD of the sun), we can see her in the pre-dawn. At this point, she is called Phosphorus or Lucifer, the “light bearer.” The Morning Star.
Twenty-one days after the inferior conjunction, Venus turns direct, called Direct Station.
Thirty-six days after the inferior conjunction, Venus is most brilliant in the morning sky.
Another thirty-six days Venus reaches its maximum distance from the Sun or Maximum Elongation (never more than 45 degrees away). At this time, Venus is moving at the same speed or faster than the sun. Catching up!
Two-hundred and sixteen days (6 x 36 days) later, Venus reaches the superior conjunction with the Sun, when she is moving close to her maximum of speed of about 1°15′ per day. Think of this as the ‘full moon’ stage, where Venus is farthest from the Earth. She’s back in the underworld again, not visible in the morning or evening.
Thirty-six days after the superior conjunction, when the Sun and Venus are about ten degrees apart, Venus reappears from the underworld as the evening sky, setting AFTER the Sun.
Finally, we have thirty-six days later, the Retrograde Station that leads back, Rx, to the new synodic cycle starting with the next inferior conjunction where we can’t see her. She’s in the underworld yet again, until she moves 10 degrees AHEAD of the sun, appearing as the Morning star.
Now that you have that under your belt, check the Astro clock and see where Venus is now in her Synodic Cycle:
You’ll find she’s in the middle of the Synodic Cycle, post superior conjunction, with Venus at 25 Leo (today as I type) setting 24 degrees after the sun at 1 Leo. She’s our evening star, with the Maximum Elongation occurring in January 2017 with Rx Station in March 2017. By May 2017, she rises as our Morning star once again.
Starting to make sense?
584 x 5 = 365 x 8 = 2920. i.e. there are exactly 5 Venus cycles in every 8 years, and the significant points migrate slowly retrograde through the zodiac. This means that every 8 years the same Rx loop occurs at the same time of year, covering the same degrees of the zodiac. Psychologically, it represents a time of the most profound maturing of the soul through the purification of the heart. We are invited to include that which has been excluded, to make amends internally, to seek forgiveness and to process unfinished business so that we may be renewed and released.– Melanie Reinhart
Now that you have gleaned all this cool science, how do you apply it to your chart?
First, work out which part of the Venus synodic cycles when you where born. Was she the morning star? Evening? Direct” Rx? In the underworld (invisible)? Do you connect this energy to your relationship MO? Here is a lengthy Venus Cycle PDF to work off of. And for delineations and deep details, this article by the humanistic astrologer, Michael R Myer.
Next, check the house Venus was in when the cycle began (where was the inferior conjunction before, or during, your birth?) It may have been a year or more back. Do your relationships spring from the matters of this house? Interesting, right?
Now, check your loves, family and past loves charts. Are they in the same Venus synodic cycles as your chart? Different? You may notice a kind of simpatico with ppl in the same cycle as you.
Hopefully, this will get you in touch with the connection between astrology (the symbolic and energetic correlations between the planets and person/place and things on Earth), and astronomy, the the branch of science which deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole.
Let’s share our thoughts!
Most of all, anyone confused about the Daily Motion of the Planets through the chart, this 2 minute tut will help. Please let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
Hi Everyone! For those just starting out, this Video Tutorial will show you the four basic Astrology Building Blocks , the constructs of the horoscope or natal chart. This includes groundwork on the planets, signs, houses and aspects - in under 3 minutes!
Think of Astrology as a symbol system where the planets are the actors. The the signs are the their costumes they wear. The houses are the stages, the sets they act upon, and the aspects are the scripts they’ve been handed. How they are scripted to interrelate.
Remember, YOU are the director, and you call the shots, decide when to say Action and when to say cut!
Enjoy, and see you in the comments for Q & A.
It's Kim Falconer here with a tutorial on the very cool and useful midpoint magic.
the exact middle point.
Midpoints in astrology are the half-way points between two planets, points or angles in the horoscopic wheel or chart. (Like the half-way point between your Sun and Moon, or between your Ascendant and Mars.) The emphasis here is on wheel. Don't forget we are working with a 360 degree circle. It's simply geometry. Midpoints are going to be your friends, once you learn how to find them, and integrate the symbolic meaning. You'll also learn here how to find transiting midpoints and what they might mean. Let's get started!
Midpoints are plotted by finding the midway mark between two given planets or points. Watch this 8 minute video midpoint tutorial for the basics. Then we'll go through the steps, one by one.
If a person’s sun is 1 degree of Aries and their Venus is 1 degree of Leo, the Sun/Venus midpoint will fall in two opposing places: the nearer midpoint at 1 degree Gemini, and the farther midpoint directly opposite at 1 degree Sagittarius.
Because the horoscope is spherical (a wheel or circle with 360 degrees) and not a linear stack, there will always be two midpoints exactly 180 degrees apart for every combination of planets. One will form a shorter arc and the other a longer one. The shorter arc is generally considered stronger, though both are important.
Often it's not easy to see the midpoint at a glance and the quickest way of making an accurate list of them is to follow this simple formula:
Let me explain with an example:
To find the midpoint of natal Moon and Sun when the Moon is 15 degrees Aries 18 minutes and the Sun 27 degrees Scorpio 35 minutes, we reduced the Moon to 15.18 and the Sun to 237.35. Added together equals 252.53. Divide divided by 2 gives a far midpoint of 126.26 or 6 degrees Leo 26 minutes and a nearer midpoint of the exact opposite of 6 degrees Aquarius 26 minutes. The following list reinterprets the signs into degrees of the circle making it easy to convert the degrees of the signs into a degree of the circle, and then back again.
I'd love everyone to pull up there charts and find their Sun/Moon midpoint now, using this method. If you get stuck, give us a shout out, in the comments.
The midpoints are a blend of the two planets involved and their sign and house placement can indicate where and how that energy can best express. For example the Sun/Moon midpoint represents a merging of yin and yang, conscious and unconscious, male and female. Where this midpoint falls in the chart can represent marriage, creative genius AND practical application, friendship and love. When it is activated by transit (Uranus on Su/Mo for example) or by another person (someone's Venus on your Su/Mo) it can 'wake up' desires for balance, harmony, creative expression, nurturing and love combined. Make sense? Reinhold Ebertin has written extensively on midpoints. If you want to delve deeper, definitely start with The Combination of Stellar Influences.
The composite or ‘relationship’ horoscope is a chart derived from the midpoints between two natal charts
See my article on Astro - Compatibility for more details
It can be drawn in different ways but basically it is a chart of the midpoints between two natal horoscopes (Person A’s Sun and Person B’s Sun, Person A's Moon and Person B's Moon etc). The new planetary positions are then plotted in a third chart created from a composite (midpoint) Ascendant and Midheaven. Although the points do not represent any specific moment in time like a natal or even progressed chart does, it symbolically reflects the nature of the relationship, an entity unto itself. So if you work with composite charts, you are already using midpoints.
Note if there are any planets conjunct these midpoints. What influence would that bring.
Note if there are any transits coming up to these midpoints.
2. Finally, pick two TRANSITING planets that interest you and find their midpoints. Where do those fall in your chart. For example, Mars at 6 Saggo and Saturn at 9 Saggo make the Ma/Sa midpoint 7.5 Saggo and 7.5 Gemini. That would be an area of YOUR chart where you are driving with the brakes on.
3. When you get a handle on finding midpoints by hand, you can double check your work by clicking on your chart at Astro.com, then click Extended Chart Selection. From there, click on PULLEN/ASTROLOG and Aspects/midpoint grid chart.
Let me know what you discover, or if you need help with the maths.
This is an excellent tool for your astro-toolbox so I hope you all give it a go.
