Solstice Dance 2018

Solstice Dance - Danza de Luna by Beverly Ash Gilbert

The Solstice Dance

Hi Everyone, I'm updating the Solstice post, making it relevant for June 21, 2018. It's happening now!

Happy mid-winter solstice in the southern hemisphere; mid-summer in the north. This is a time to celebrate, appreciate and feel gratitude for the blessings in life. Let's count them! Fuel our goals, aspirations and desires by honoring the connection to life, love, nurturing and joy. Make this whole week a an inner, and outer celebration.

Think of the Solstice Dance as a turning point, symbolic of endings and new beginnings. With Uranus and Chiron closely connected to the o degree Cancer sun (the solstice point), something in your life is on the brink of change.

Technical Notes

In Astrology, two major things happen at the solstice.

1) Sun crosses the AP – the zero degree “Aries” point. Pardon, you might say. The sun is nowhere near Aries. It’s 0 degrees of Cancer.

True, but all the Cardinal points of the zodiac, 0 Aries, 0 Cancer, 0 Libra and 0 Capricorn are collectively called the “Aries Point”. If you take a square piece of paper and fold it so each corner is in the same place, you’ll see why.

2) the sun crosses the Draconic Nodes, releasing energy to move you along your path.

If you want to fast track your abundance, creativity, well-being, love and enlightenment, then focus your thoughts on what you want to experience on or in the days after the Solstice.

Using your Chart to Amp up Solstice Intentions

It's easy to use your chart to amp up your intentions. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Spot where the four 0 degree Cardinal signs are in your chart. Think of greeting this energy with reverence and respect, ready to engage, give and receive. This is where you do your Solstice Dance of enthusiasm and joy.
  2. Hone in on 0 degrees of Cancer in your chart. Give it an 8 - 10 degree orb either way. (20 Gemini to 10 Cancer). Any planets there? What house is the focus on? Transits to that house?
  3. Notice how you feel in this area of life, what you want and then relax about it. Let the universe do her thing!

Not sure how to find these positions in your natal chart? Pop over to the GVA Forum and we’ll give you a hand.

Happy Solstice everyone!

Uranus Breakthroughs in the 'Fall'

Uranus is in its FALL in Taurus. This has nothing to do with the seasons of the year, and everything to do with the way Uranus will express in your chart, and in the charts of nations.

Cripsen Korschen Uranus Breakthroughs Balance
Lovely Balance by Crispin Korschen

To understand why Taurus is the sign of Uranus' Fall, consider the desires of Uranus working out through Venus-ruled Taurus. What does he want, need and have to offer? The core values of Uranus include: to awaken, to shock, to be original, to be free, to revolt, rebel, reinvent. It's probably the most impersonal planet in the solar system.

Remember, the planets are the actors, the signs, the costumes they wear, the houses the stage or area of life and the aspects the scrips they read.

Now, think of what kind of costume Taurus give Uranus to wear. Words like sensual, seductive, expensive, alluring, practical, earthy, grounded, artistic, feminine, gentle, ostentatious, comfortable. Taurus is Venus ruled and of the body. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury and of the mind, intuition and higher realms of thought. In ancient mythologies, Uranus or Ouranos, is Father Sky, a creation god of perfection, and as such, he finds his earthly prodigy, the Titans, repulsive. Probably this theme represents the detachment of Uranus to the every day, and to the 'flawed'. The key to leveraging Uranus in Taurus include finding new ways to 'get real' and express 'practical genius', earthy innovation and abundances for everyone.

Uranus Breakthroughs When Last in Taurus - 1934 - 1943

In Taurus, Uranus operates through the world of matter, not his comfort zone.  Last time, a few things went askew, like the gold standard, the world economy and democracy abroad. Our relationship to prosperity changed as a result. Perhaps this is why some eccentric (Uranus) bank robbers (Taurus) like John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde hit the front page of newspapers at this time.

But in addition to the challenges, innovative changes appeared. Schrödinger's cat was first imagined as a way to explain the mind-bending contradictions of quantum mechanics. J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, or There and Back Again came out, shaping the Fantasy genre for the next eighty years, and beyond. President Roosevelt signed US Social Security and the Neutrality Act. Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Pacific, a rousing combination of technology (Uranus) and feminism (Taurus).

And, a personal favorite, the board game Monopoly was created. Leave it to Uranus (imaginary) in Taurus (money) to make a game of financial success and failure. Prohibition was overturned (freedom to be licentious?) with the 21st Amendment and the first proto-computer came online, the Z1, a room-sized machine able to store 1,400 bits of information. (The machine you’re using now sits in your lap and can hold 8.5 billion bits, by contrast.)

Other inventions of the last Uranus in Taurus transit include nylon, a synthetic (Uranus) garment (Taurus). Commonplace now, it was seen as something straight out of a SF future at the time, along with pinball machines, Kodachrome photography, color films and the Volkswagen Beetle. Not all doom and gloom!

Quotes for Uranus Breakthroughs in Taurus

As feminism rallied after the success with suffrage, powerful, creative and revolutionary women spoke out.

1. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Eleanor Roosevelt

2. "Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It's beyond me." -  Zora Neale Hurston

3. "I don't breed in captivity." - Gloria Steinem, when asked about her personal views on marriage. She was born in 1934 with Uranus on the cusp of Aries/Taurus.

4. "Men and women, here and now, are able to exert their wills; they are not pawns and puppets dancing on a string held by invisible hands. They can act, and think for themselves. Perhaps even they can influence other people's thoughts and actions." - -Virginia Woolfe

5. "Too often little attention is paid to individual talent. Instead, education goes on dividing people according to their sex..." - Amelia Earhart

Where will you experience your Uranus Breakthroughs?

Think of Uranus as one of the most exciting planets to work with in deliberate creation where we blast through glass ceilings and break out of limiting beliefs. It’s insanely powerful energy and we'll be talking about this more on May 15th, TIME - 6 pm EDT. For now, here are some ideas to explore.

Some have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to,
when all they need is one reason why they can. -Martha Graham, dancer.

AriesARIES: Uranus breakthroughs operate in your second house of core values and sense of ‘wealth’ $$ and abundance. What is it, inner and outer, that makes you feel secure? When things go topsy-turvy, you know you're on the right track.

TaurusTAURUS: This is your sun sign, the most potent Uranian transit of your life. It lights up all four corners of your world, self-expression, home, career and partnership. It’s the perfect time to set new intentions, putting energy into YOU and what you want to create.

GeminiGEMINI: Taurus is your natural house of dreams and immersion in the collective. It’s a time of synchronicity, meaning and serendipitous connections. You will be generating new enthusiasm for a Uranus Breakthrough years ahead. Muse, create, allow.

CancerCANCER: Time to explore new connections, friendships and links with like-minded others. This energy wants tangible results so remember the ancient motto – to have a friend, be a friend. Let go of what is no longer true to you and explore new horizons.

LeoLEO: If you're not in the career or spotlight of your dreams, kiss the status quo goodbye. Disruptive at first, this transit is all about realigning with authenticity.  So, ask: are you doing what you love? The answer will define the next seven years! Be honest.

VirgoVIRGO: Time to get out of the house, away from the grind and out into the world. You are primed to taste, touch and smell the sunrise, view the sights and hear every new sound, idea and concept. Travel, explore, expand. Point your feet in a revolutionary direction.

LibraLIBRA: Joint partnerships, especially where finances are concerned, go through major transformations. You decide how you want things to be. It’s time to stop relying on outmoded business models for your shared resources. Intend for them to accelerate out of this world.

ScorpioSCORPIO: Emotional freedom to be yourself in all your relationships is the breakthrough you're after. Taurus puts the spotlight on intimacy, Uranus on liberty, meaning you will want to find new balance. Take a moment to imagine things the way you want. And so it begins . . .

SagittariusSAGITTARIUS: All the taken for granted things of the household, studio, office, your pets, plants and plans, include gym, nutrition and well-being, require new energy, attention, revolution even. Over the next seven years, put your mind on the ways and means you accomplish your will.

CapricornCAPRICORN: A childlike creative impulse infuses you, giving you the Midas Touch when it comes to creative self-expression. Don’t be embarrassed! It’s natural for you to be more playful now. Set aside some time for fun and carefree expenditure of energy for best results.

AquariusAQUARIUS: Uranus in Taurus is your cue to put attention inward, into your emotional core, the home, family and sense of 'ground' and stability. Evaluate, appreciate and make repairs, or plan rebellions, where necessary. This sets the stage for fabulous results over the next seven years

piscesPISCES: Uranus in Taurus through your communications sector has you spouting genius innovations and honing them down to practical use. i.e., cut to the chase. Your words are even MORE powerful creators of your future. Say what you mean; mean what you say.

Use Astrology to Boost your Manifesting

Hi Everyone! Use astrology to boost your manifesting is a re-blog from Jeannette's GoodVibeBlog posted in 2013 when GVA first opened. I realized this flows perfectly with the last call of the Home Sweet Home course and wanted to post it here as well.

Our aim is to marry up the powerful arts of astrology and deliberate creation.

(Hats off to you savvy creators who are already doing so!)

But for those of you who this might be foreign to, or anyone in need of some tips and reminders, here are six ways astrology can amp up your manifesting game:

1. Harness planetary energy

Everything vibrates – including you, me, our thoughts and all those beautiful planets.

How do those universal bodies affect your vibration?  And how can you use those energies to your manifesting benefit?

All it takes is some basic astrological knowledge to get more bang for your focusing buck.  You’ll find it makes all the difference in the world when you work with planetary cyclical energy rather in ignorance of it.

2.  Get a better handle on contrast

When things seem to be going sideways, it can help to spot the transits involved and understand the ‘message in the madness’.  (Just seeing transformation ahead, and the core purpose of it all, can bring relief in the present moment!)

3.  Find reasons to believe

When we can see how the stars are lining up to support what we want, it makes it even easier to believe in our success.  And belief and expectation are big parts of the LOA game.

When I saw Jupiter moving into my tenth house, my LOA-friendly interpretation was that this was the time my professional platform really wanted to grow.  That was no time to play it small – and seeing that energy in play made me braver in honoring bold work inspirations.

4.  Enhance self love

It is nearly impossible to study your natal chart without falling in love with yourself.  You’ll see all your complexities and quirks that make you uniquely you.  Since the world can only reflect how we feel about ourselves, self love is a helpful vibe to amplify.

5.  See others from the eyes of God/Source

We’re co-creating the others in our lives based on how we think about and know them.  So finding a way to see them in their highest light allows you to experience the best they have to offer.  Astrology is a powerful way to tap into another’s best self.  (In the past, knowing an ex was a triple Virgo helped me cut him lots of slack when he tended to criticize instead of appreciate.)

6.  Identify and leverage your best LOA power tools

Your personal astrology inclines you to certain manifesting gifts.  Once you know them, you can take full conscious advantage of them.  (Example, my Libra sun makes it easy for me to see other points of view, and thus to be more flexible in how I perceive reality.  Which is why I’m so good at leveraging Abraham’s advice to “see ‘what is’ in a way that pleases you.”)

How do you use astrology to become a more powerful deliberate creator?  We’d love to hear from you in the comments!

A Fun Manifesting Example

Thanks so much for re-posting here, Jeannette.

So, here's and example of an LOA  technique based on Saturn transiting my 4th house. It's a combo of the above #5 and #6 - Seeing others from the eyes of Source and seeing what is, in a way that is pleasing to me.

The Astro: Many of you know I have had Saturn transiting through my 4th house for several years. It put the focus on home and family, and I admit, I was having difficulties. We live in close quarters so, you know...

What I did to see them all from Source perspective, and get happy with What is, was IMAGINE each individual member of the family in a way that perfectly delighted me and found an image that matched. I added myself to the mix, and visit the images when I need to remind myself how wonderful these people are. Here, let me show you:

Aaron
Virgo son
Sara
Aries Daughter-in-Law
 Kayla
Virgo Granddaughter
Kinayda*another Virgo* Grandson
 Son

Leo Grandson

KimGemini me :)

It's an amazing practice and has transformed a contrasting Home Sweet Home to a delightful one.

I'd love to hear what current transits you have now and what LOA techniques you're using to boost your manifesting. Hop on the comments to share, or ask questions.

Thanks for joining us. See you there!

Sedna - Journey to the Edge

Sedna is a painting by Antony Galbraith
Sedna by Antony Galbraith

Sedna - Journey to the Edge - Updated from Falconastrology 2006.

Who is Sedna?

Sedna dwells in a remote region of space, a distant world whose discovery tripled the size of our solar system. Seen from her icy surface, our sun is only a twinkling star. Extremely cold, red, eccentric in orbit and with a mysterious constitution, her first sighting on November 14, 2003, 06:32 AM UT at Palomar Mountain, California marks a new shift in human awareness. Nothing this far away has ever been seen before.

Early newspaper headlines proclaimed Sedna as our 10th planet though Dr Michael Brown, who named her for the Inuit goddess of the Arctic seas, predicted Sedna would be classified as a planetoid, along with Pluto, Eris and other "Trans-Neptune" bodies. Estimated at about 1800 km, or 2/3 the size of Pluto, Sedna is the largest and most outlying body found since 1930.

Sedna orbits somewhere beyond the outer edge of the Kuiper Belt and the inner periphery of the hypothesized Oort cloud, a vast source of comets and other frozen bodies thought to extend halfway to the next nearest star, Alpha Centauri. Her distance is between 76AU and 942AU, making a single journey around the sun in about 11,400 years, compared to the planetoid Eris, with an orbit of 557 years and Pluto, 248 years.

Some Perspective on Distance

Though remote, Sedna is still much closer than the ‘fixed stars’, important astrological indicators in the chart. Like homoeopathy, distance (dilution) may actually increase potency. The question is what kind of potency?sedna-art

The Astrological Sedna

Determining the astrological significance of Sedna requires observation and time. Research includes exploring the mythology of the name, collective movements and social spotlights at the time of discovery and events, internal and external, that link to the natal and mundane placement of Sedna in the chart.

Things to Consider

Dennis Elwell, astrologer and author, cautions against giving excessive weight to singular episodes in the mythology and not enough to empirical experience. Though mythic themes are insightful, events coinciding with Sedna activation by transit must be considered equally.

Naming Sedna

The first coincidence is the naming of Sedna . How do we know they got it right? Liz Greene, from London’s Centre for Psychological Astrology, elaborates on this topic.

“There is…a curious synchronicity between the time when the planet is discovered and the emergence in society of values and experiences which the planet represents symbolically. It’s as though the planet breaks upon consciousness in both a literal and symbolic way. I can’t really answer you as to why Uranus is called Uranus and Neptune, Neptune. I can only say that in some mysterious fashion they get the names right.”

The Inuit Sedna

Sedna resides in the icy depths of Adlivun, the Arctic underworld beneath the sea. There she rules all marine life and controls the fate of humans by releasing her bounty to respectful hunters and withholding it from careless ones. Disregard for the sacredness of life is the worst offence. When this happens, her long hair tangles with filth and requires a shaman’s journey to appease her rage.

The legends vary regarding her origins, though in most stories, Sedna was once a beautiful girl. Many suitors came to ask for her hand in marriage yet she rejected them all, much to her father’s anguish. When one wealthy hunter was refused, he gave her his dog, saying it was all she deserved. She then marries the dog and gives birth to pups and babes alike.

Ironically, a dog to the Inuit symbolizes faithfulness to one’s own spirit, making this union a mark of individuation, completion within herself. The hunter and her father, however, are appalled. When the dog-husband carries food to his banished offspring, Sedna’s father places stones in his pack and drowns him.

Still, Sedna continues to refuse all suitors until a mysterious man arrives dressed in very fine skins and feathers. Intrigued by the promise of warmth and abundance, she agrees to wed.

But it doesn't go well. Her new husband’s guarantee of comfort vanishes when Sedna realizes he is a Fulmar, a dangerous bird spirit living on a desolate island. Although he brings her fresh fish every day, there is no warmth, no furs, and no lamp oil. She falls into despair, wailing her lament.

Another Version

The Legend of Sedna (Sraiya, ca. 2010, pen and ink)

In yet another version, Sedna is the child of two deities. Though well fed, she is a hungry girl and chews into her parents’ flesh while they sleep. For this, she is sent into exile.

In every version, Sedna eventually ends up in a kayak with her father who finally comes to rescue her. A terrible storm ensues, stirred by the angry Fulmar or other offended spirits who don't want to let her go. Her father fears for his life and tosses Sedna overboard. (Thanks, dad...)

When she grasps the side of the kayak and tries to climb back in, he chops her frozen fingers off, one by one with an axe. As her finger joints fall into the sea, they turn into seals, whales, polar bears, fish, dolphins and walruses.

Sedna sinks below the waves, her upper body remaining a woman and her lower body transforming into a fish or dolphin tail. She comes to rest at the bottom of the ocean floor and is guarded by her faithful dog-husband.

Sometimes she is depicted as a grotesque, one-eyed vision of outraged spite. Other images are more seductive and mermaid-like. She probably can be both.

The Mermaid Mythos and Other Connections

Stories of mermaids, circulating for centuries and underscored periodically with actual sightings, tell of sea creatures, half female-half fish or dolphin. They personify both the alluring and treacherous aspects of the feminine, residing in the sea of the unconscious, holding a key to life and death. Like Sedna, they maintain specific taboos and seem to represent an innate fear of the sacred feminine.

European tales like The Handless Maiden also involve a father who cuts off his daughter’s hands. The loss of the hands is a potent and disturbing symbol. Hands represent our dexterity, allowing us to control and interact with the world. The father’s act of maiming his child—in the Inuit and European stories —is, to us, poorly motivated. Because he was afraid of the Fulmar? Afraid of her?

Lack of proportional incentive makes these tales all the more disturbing. Among other things, they say something about abused family authority, a theme in the Sedna mythology.

The Life-Death-Life Goddess

This doesn’t mean that Sedna is a victim. Quite the opposite, she is a life-death-life goddess. Her power and authority regulate who, by their right action, will live and who, by their negligence, will starve. Here is what Dr Kathleen Jenks says about Sedna and victimization.

“When victimization moves to the goddess-level as it does with Sedna, (it) signals us that there's an extra depth of compassion for the abused. It also tells us that this goddess-archetype has the wherewithal to make a difference and empower that person whose (planets) are resonating with Sedna’s sphere of power.

Sedna may come to represent an extreme terrain of the unconscious, one where issues of power, authority and respect for life do not separate from a respect for oneself. The Inuit are an animistic people, seeing divinity in all things. Sedna may ask us to account for previously unconsidered forms of negligence towards ourselves and our living planet.

Te_Fiti_8Connecting with Sedna

Unappeasable by force, bribe or cajole, Sedna is softened by a shaman’s song of life. The 2003 New Zealand film, Whale Rider, and the more recent 2016 Moana echoes such a shamanic journey, impelled by the spirit of a people in need. Perhaps this is how we are to commune with Sedna, through the guided imagery of dreams and spirit-journeys, stories and song.

World Events at Discovery

Sedna's discovery on November 14th, 2003 at 17 Taurus 58 coincides with 350 million people uniting in World Diabetes Day. Venerated astrologer Isabel Hickey taught that diabetes was a physical form of emotional bitterness, the inability to balance negative thoughts with positive ones. This highlights Venus, ruler of both Taurus, the sign of Sedna’s current transit and Libra, the sign long associated with this disease.

Venus also links to personal, one-to-one, socially significant relationships and the drive for balance there.

Consider other world events coinciding with this discovery, and what they may say about fear, abuse of power and Mother Earth’s immutable authority. Here are just a few.

“Alaska's native horse killed off by food shortages and climate change - not human hunters.”

How actively do we protect and nurture life on earth?

“The world's most damaging potato disease discovered in Britain.”

How do we respond to the threat of food shortage and disease?

“Opposition to USA Patriot Act Swells”

How well do democratic governments protect the rights of their citizens?

“A gas explosion in a southern China coal mine killed 48 workers, injured two others.”

How well do we protect our labor force?

"Southeast Asia Water Forum- - Chiang Mai, Thailand."

How do we protect our oceans/freshwater ecosystems?

Tracking Personal Experiences

Sedna has been transiting through mid-Aries to mid-Taurus these last 85 years. Current generations share a similar placement in their astrological charts by sign and outer planet aspect, though house position and contacts to the personal planets are more unique.

Recording the transits of Sedna and checking activation dates against inner and outer life events will help reveal her meaning on a personal level. A downloadable Ephemeris is available online at Astrodienst to keep track. There is also an ephemeris generator on Jon Dunn’s Astro site that gives declination, sidereal and draconic zodiacs.

Practical Examples

Transiting Sedna was exactly opposite my natal third house Saturn when learning to SCUBA dive in areas rich with sea lions, dolphins and whales. By facing fears (Saturn) this time led to more self-confidence and empowerment, particularly in the area of communication, higher education and teaching (3rd-9th house axis).

For another woman, when transiting Sedna exactly squared the natal Moon in Aquarius, it coincided with a separation from an abusive relationship and major change of residence. Both these transits reflect significant turning points in life.

Chart and Dream

Charolette_Natal

Above is the chart of a woman called Charlotte. During a troubled time, she sought astrological consultation, bringing this dream.

"I am looking into a deep inland sea, edged by descending stairs. I feel compelled to follow the stairs down into the caverns underneath the water. I somehow know there is something down there that is hungry, trapped. I race down the steps and glimpse an enormous black walrus stuck in the dry caverns, unable to get to the water.

I race on to free it, but as I turn the last descent of stairs, I run straight into a cement wall.

The way has been blocked, sealed off. I can’t get to the creature to feed it and return it to the sea and I know it will die."

Charlotte's Natal Sedna 4 Taurus 16
Transiting Sedna 17 Taurus 52

Interpretation

On examination of her chart, transiting Sedna was conjunct her natal 12th house Sun. Note her chart ruler, Venus, conjuncts natal Sedna, also in the 12th. With the abundance of Earth (Taurus), she has a naturally pragmatic approach to life—sweet, calm and compelled by the realm of the senses. However, all that Earth is “trapped” in the non-corporeal 12th house, the sea of the unconscious.

Her relationship with the mundane world was well established yet her connection to her inner world remained relatively unexplored.

The sea links to the vast depths of Charlotte’s unconscious 12th house. It is interesting that mythically Sedna used her creatures, whales and seals, to communicate with the People, to feed them or not as they deserved.

So, the only way to reach Sedna, however through the spirit journey of the shaman. Once in Sedna's realm, the shaman placates her anger by asking how the taboos have been broken and what can be done to correct the offense. The shaman then combs her tangled hair, releasing the souls of animals abused and chants to her songs of life.

Hearing the Myth of Sedna

When Charlotte heard the myth of Sedna, she realized, through a stream of tears, she had always wanted to pursue her artistic talents but worked as a bookkeeper in her father’s business instead. She had never acknowledged how empty she felt.

By exploring the inherent conflict between the 12th house Sun in Taurus (square 3rd house Leo Moon) she found ways to feed and nurture her creative and mystical longings as well as her need for practical security. This Sedna transit coincided with an application and acceptance to art school, greater independence (separation from the father) and a new journey into her hidden world of creativity and spirit.

Although other transits occurred at this time, the imagery in Charlotte’s dream and the personal relevance she felt resonated strongly with Sedna.

Conclusions

To sum up, Sedna’s discovery heralds the expansion of not only our solar system but our capacity for conscious awareness. By tracking Sedna’s transits—perhaps looking first at the conjunctions, squares and oppositions—themes of her message will arise.

Where is 25 - 27 degrees of Taurus in your natal chart? What planets or angles are activated by this contact? Have a look and be a part of this new and intriguing exploration into the unknown.
