Venus & Mars Retrograde 2020

Juggling in the Air by Michael Parkes

This year brings a lot of cool astrological features, one of them being Venus and Mars retrograde 2020. With Venus Out of Bounds during two months of this cycle, there's more here than imagined. Let's take a closer look.

Venus Retrograde 2020 Days and Degrees

First, we'll look at where in the zodiac this is happening. Venus will be retrograde from May 13th to June 25th, between 5° and 21° of Gemini. But that's only the start. She enters the retrograde zone on April 9th and doesn't leave until the 29th of July. A long haul! On top of it, she's out of bounds from April 3rd to June 3rd.

Think of this in two ways. Firstly, that you will have time, especially between mid-May and late June, to reflect, tuning into your relationships and values. The specific topic of this reflection will depend on where the retrograde 2020 is in your natal chart. If you aren't sure, go by your solar chart. (See guide below.)

Secondly, consider the out of bounds phase. Simply put, it's a time of extremes where thoughts, ideas and actions can break through glass ceilings. As we go beyond normal limits in life, new experiences unfold. We also tend to take more risks and act a little wilder. A little more edge.

Venus Retrograde 2020 in the Houses - where to reflect.

Aries - The written and spoken word, teaching, learning, connecting, neighborhood, siblings.

Taurus - Money and finances, resources, talents, income streams, security, peace of mind.

Gemini - Appearance, personality traits, style, outlook on life, what you let others see.

Cancer - Unconscious, dreams, giving and receiving, being of service, meditative states, behind the veil.

Leo - Friends, your tribe, like-minded others, groups, associations, goals & wishes.

Virgo - Career, mission, profession, public relations, sense of authority, a parent or grandparent.

Libra - New horizons, travel, beliefs, philosophy, new knowledge, adventure, import-export, worldwide.

Scorpio - Sex, death, taxes, shared energy and resources, deep investigations, occult research, trust.

Sagittarius - Personal, socially significant, one-to-one relationships, frenemies, biz partners, collaborations.

Capricorn - Work-a-day life, ritual routine, health and well being, pets, gadgets, ritual magic.

Aquarius - Creative self-expression, offspring (books, paintings, music, kids etc), romance and risky business!

Pisces - Home, family, property, ancestors, emotional ground, a parent or grandparent.

Venus Retrograde 2020 Summary

To clarify, Venus Rx will focus on 16° of the zodiac for four months. It's a mega manifesting opportunity, especially when coupled with the out of bounds phase. Namely, May 13th to June 3rd. Circle those two weeks in red! If you do your reflective homework starting April, you'll be blasting through upper limits in no time.

Tips include knowing your core values, acting on inspiration and releasing resistance. Venus gains through attractions. Consider your powers doubled, especially if you have planets or points in Gemini. If they are between 5° and 21°, all the more potent.

Mars Retrograde 2020 Days and Degrees

Now, let's look at where in the zodiac Mars Rx is transiting. This planet is retrograde from September 9th to November 13th, between 15° and 28° Aries. Again, there's more. Mars enters the retrograde zone on July 25th and doesn't leave until January 2, 2021. That's a LOT of Mars in his own sign, powerhouse Aries. You're going to want to pay attention!

Think of this as a time to asses your actions. Your healthy aggression. The way you stand your ground. It's all up for adjustment, especially where you have 15° and 28° Aries in your natal chart. Of course, if you don't know this exact point, you can use the solar chart technique. Actually, even if you do, you might want to check it out.

Mars Retrograde 2020 Summary

Specifically, the Mars Rx zone will focus on 15° - 28° of Aries for six months. That's a lot of manifesting opportunity! In short, from September 9th to November 13th, you have the chance to be more authentic. Take inspired actions. Not give a rip what others think. Honor your own needs. Be true to your goals. If in the past, you've let others come first at your expense, there could be a turnaround. Especially one that makes you feel more yourself. More whole and complete.

Finally, I hope everyone will feel free to ask questions here. Or, jump on the GVA forum and share your chart.

Happy Venus and Mars Retrograde 2020!

Planets out of bounds updated for 2020.

Out of Bounds (OOB) planets have a declination greater than 23 degrees 27’. It means “outside of the boundary of the ecliptic” or the path of the earth’s orbit around the sun. Because of the tilt of the earth’s axis, the sun appears to stay within 23 degrees 27’ north of the equator and 23 degrees 27’ south of the equator. Anything “outside” of that is considered “Out-of-bounds”.

These planets out of bounds act in more EXTREME ways. They are on the edge—beyond the boundary because their energy is excessive and zealous in nature. It is really “out there”.

Out of Bounds in the Natal Chart

Kim's OOB Natal Planets

Above are my OOB major planets. You can see Mercury, Venus and Mars are all OOB with Mercury and Venus Parallel of declination (almost exact) and Mercury and Mars Contra-Parallel of declination. Read more about declinations here, but know, the connections LINK them together in their 'out-there-ness'. Right away, think unconventional thoughts. It can be artistic, but can it be trained? Not easily, at least, not in the classical sense. Not inside the bounds.
Do you have a natal planet OOB? Let's discuss start a post on the forum.

Out of Bounds by Transit

When an OOB planet transits a sensitive point in your chart, you can be sure it will wake up in wild and zany ways. Check your natal chart to see where the transiting degrees of the zodiac fall. Any planets there? Angles? If so, you want to pre-pave the best ever expansion you can imagine.

Icarus Edge

WEEKEND Astro-LOA Flash

Asteroid 1566 Icarus, orbiting between Mercury and Earth, is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn for the first time since Dec 2015 (see ephemeris below. Icarus is also 'out of bounds'). Taking 409 days to journey through the zodiac, this conjunction can manifest as a desire to take a leaps - right off the edge!

Whatever feels like it's holding you back is your launchpad. Your springboard.  From that discontent, you move forward in one, huge, blind leap.

But wait! Isn't Mercury there too, turning retrograde for the next three weeks?

Yes, and even though you may find a creative ‘way out’ of a perceived limitation or obstacle, you'll be rethinking the moves as we roll into 2017.

But that's okay!

You might conclude it was the perfect step to take, or there could be some course correction. Either way, the impulse is to ‘fly free’ will allow your spirit to soar and your life to change for the better.

The Mythos

Icarus was Daedalus’s son who, ignoring his father’s warning not to fly too close to the sun, lost his feathered wings, fell to the sea and drowned. Not a very successful outcome, though he did escape the prison tower they’d been in for way too long. Some people associate Icarus with a kind of crash and burn mentality. He's like The Fool in the Tarot, not looking where he is going, foolhardy and reckless.

Not me.

I see this energy as freedom. Expansion. Liberation!

True, 1566 Icarus on Pluto can represent some extreme measures, feelings and insights but mainly it represents an attempt to escape intolerable situations. It is the impulse to get out of unfair circumstances, or go for liberating goals that others might say are impossible. Note: It doesn’t have to always end ‘badly’.

What can Icarus conjunct Pluto do for you?

Icarus energy set free can be vivid, creative inspiration. Trapped and he is like a wild bird caged. Ever had that feeling?

It’s like an crazy urge to run like hell when all they’ve said is, sign here, or pick you up at 7, or maybe even I do . . .

Icarus with Pluto is a chance to gain a deeper insight on the ‘flight’ side or our fight or flight response. Where do you feel like flying the coop? Is it fear or instinct or healthy self-awareness?

Take a moment to think about it over the next few days and eliminate a toleration or too. Why? Because tolerating something is not always a virtue. It can be a heavy energy drain. (Read more about Granting Freedom from Tolerations.)

Here’s what Jeannette Maw has to say about it:

Toleration: To tolerate something means to “allow the existence of, to permit or endure or put up with something.” This implies that the something (or someone) is less than ideal and tends to drain a person’s energy. Thus, a toleration is often a hindering influence to the vibration.

Leverage the Icarus/Pluto energy and Toss out Tolerations now!

If any of you know where Icarus is in your natal chart, feel free to mention it here. Mine’s exact on my descendant – the cusp of the house of relationship. A freedom lover if there ever was one.

Have a great weekend!

xxKim
