Electional and First Meet Charts

c69cc81ad-600x450Hi everyone, ready to explore the amazing branch of astrology known as electional charts?

To get started with this different way of viewing a chart, realize first that it’s still a BIRTH chart, just not of a human being. It’s the birth of a relationship, idea, project or business. Working with these “electional” or Origin/first meet charts can be surprisingly insightful, and revealing.

Quick Definitions:

Horary Charts – Horoscopes drawn the moment a burning questions is asked. Use the time, date and place of the astrologer, the moment THEY hear (or read) the question.

Electional Charts – A chart drawn for the best time to take a desired action. Use the time/date and place of the planned event/signing, ceremony, launch.

First Meet/Genesis/Origin Charts – Horoscopes drawn for the moment of the first meet/date/brainstorm/idea. Here we use the time/date and place of the ppl involved. If it’s face, the “birth place” is clear. If it’s an online “first meet” there are two charts, each with their own local date/time/place.

How it Works

Once the chart is created (on astro.com for free or with your own fav astro software), the fun begins. Here are the basic tools you will need to read an election/origin chart:

  1. A firm understanding of planetary dignities and rulerships, signs, houses, planets and aspects
  2. Objectivity
  3. Non-judgement

What's Next?

Numbers 2 & 3 are very important as much of the old literature on reading electionals, horary and first-meet charts is black and white, good and bad where in reality, we make of the energy what we will. Keep an open mind. If Mars square Uranus falls in the 10th and 7th, it doesn’t mean that the new biz partnership is doomed. You do want to be aware of the kind of approach required, as in not trying to control and manhandle but putting a lot of innovation and empowerment into everything you do together.

How Electional charts work – Like attracts like

We aren’t the way we are because of our birth data. Turn it around. We are born at a particular time because of who we are, and the same holds true for our ideas, our partnerships, our events and ceremonies. None of us come here with a clean slate. We have core values, beliefs, likes and dislikes from ‘before’, and so does anything that has a ‘beginning’ in manifest reality.

Law of Attraction says ‘like attracts like’. Everything in our lives is in alignment with our energy, our vibration. We get what we vibrate, which holds true for book launches, festivals, weddings, dates and brainstorm sessions. Astrology is not in contradiction to this notion. People, places, questions and ideas are born when they are (the sun, moon, and planets in a certain place) because that moment in time is a perfect match to WHAT they are.

How do we read electional charts?

In many ways, we read these charts just like a person’s natal. Working with electional and origin charts are great practice for honing your delineation skills including:

Rulerships

For a very basic tutorial on this, go HERE. If you just need a chart of the rulerships to brush up, see below. We use rulerships to identify the state and action of the relationships/meet-up/event. For example, if Sagittarius is rising in a first-meet chart, we know that Jupiter Rules the moment. We look at where and how Jupiter is placed to learn more about what the connection is all about.

screen-shot-2015-12-11-at-5-55-23-pm-600x405Dignitaries

Not all planets are equally well disposed in each sign. They have their favorites and their challenges. Here is a chart of the classical dignitaries.

In some signs, the power of a planet (energy) is able to flow without any kinks because it is in a natural alignment with that sign. In other signs, it is more convoluted, because the energy of the planet is contrasting or a resistant to the nature of the sign.

screen-shot-2015-12-11-at-6-50-39-pm-600x796

Ruler

Planets in the signs they rule are like being on easy street for expression. Home. Empowered.

Detriment

Planets in the opposite sign to the one they rule are in the ‘shadow’ sign, or ‘contrast/detriment’ or ‘resistance’. Their power is not as free flowing because the sign is not aligned to their mode of expression (put a warrior in a tutu . . .Mars in Libra, or put Saturn, a corporate executive, in a pre-school teacher’ outfit). The ‘detriment’ or shadow sign is always opposite to the sign the planet rules.

Exaltation

Every  planet has one sign other than the rulership sign, that it expresses completely freely in – that is the sign of the exaltation. (Saturn exalted in Libra, Mars exalted in Capricorn)

Fall

The opposite sign of the exaltation is the ‘fall’ or give . . . this shadow sign is also a contrast to the easy alignment, and through contrast, we grow in experience, gain self awareness and become more self-aware. Fulfilled.

So you see, a planet in the sign of his rulership is like a person entertaining in their own house. They feel at ease, natural and in control. In Detriment or Fall, they must entertain in another person’s house. It makes it hard to find things. Harder still to do as they please. –

Other Things to Check

First, look at the electional or first-meet chart Moon and her “applying” aspects. They show the actions that come next. Also note the house position of the moon and the lunar phase (the aspect to the sun). The moon is considered the co-ruler of the chart, along with the Ascendant ruler so we put a strong focus there. Also we look at mutual receptions, and maybe Arabic Parts and some fixed stars and asteroids. Don’t clog the chart up to start with though. Get the essence and then gradually add in other elements IF they have something to offer the situation.

Houses

You will want to have a handle on “where” in the chart we find the other person (if another is involved). This is where you build your journal as a resource, keeping notes on the houses that rule different types of connections – 1st – Self, 2nd – Aunts and Uncles,  3rd house is siblings, 4th, a parent, 5th, first child, lovers, 6th, employee, 7th, “the other” 8th, banker, 9th, guru, teacher, 10th, boss, a parent, 11th, friends, 12th, the unknown other . . . that’s just to get you started.

Symbolism in Electional Charts

Each chart tells a story and as you practice with these electional and origin charts, you’ll start to understand what that story is.

I would love to look at one or two examples from the class to give you all a feel for how to jump in, so make note in the comments of the chart (is it a first meet, launch time or start up of a biz?) and have a link to it that everyone can click on and view. Obviously I can’t run through too many but you all can have a go. Let’s see what examples come up.

Examples

In the meantime, here is a chart of the moment. Let’s pretend it’s a first meet chart and I’m wondering “what to expect” of the energy of the connection.

Okay, now I wish I just met someone at this moment for real LOL! I didn’t time this out but really, look how cool it would be.

The Reading

I’m a Gemini Sun and there it is, Gemini on the Ascendant, with the Part of Fortune. That’s me! Curious, flirty and having fun.

The chart ruler, from my perspective is Mercury, and he’s not thrilled to be in Capricorn but he’s “dignified” in the 7th house (because it is angular) and is applying to all kinds of fun aspects, ending with a trine to Jupiter and the Node. We might say that though I’d experience some shocks along the way (Mercury applying to a square to Uranus, (Yes , out of orb of 10 degrees but we are looking at all applying aspects by sign) but still, the feeling is all’s well that ends well with Jupiter node.

The 'Other'

“They” (my hypothetical meet up person) are ruled by Jupiter (Saggo on the cusp of the 7th house of “the other”) and in his detriment (Virgo), but again, my ruler and their ruler are applying to a trine by sign. We would say that I have the better standing, the “hand” or upper hand/control, at least at the start.

The Moon is in the last hours of DARK, which isn’t what you’d plan for an electional chart. Make sure that the New Moon is complete, if you are planning an event. But still, Moon conjunct sun in the 7th bods well for this hypothetical connection. I would say we would definitely meet again, though with the dark moon and co-ruler moon square their ruler Jupiter, this intriguing other is committed elsewhere. The dark moon has a 12th house feel to it. We’d be sneaking around, for one reason or another! OR, we are collaborating on a mystery novel! Remember, keep an open mind on how the energy might play out.

Conclusions

All this from just looking at the rulers of the two people involved, and the co-ruler moon.

I hope it whets your appetite for more. Questions? Comments? Ideas?

Let’s talk on the here, or on the GVA Forum.

PS THE author to read if you want to specialize in these kinds of charts is Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson.

Astro-Wheel of Life

Hi everyone, I want to introduce the idea of the Astro-Wheel of Life.

Wheel of Live

Recently on a GVA call, we talked about the wheel of life as a coaching/self-help tool for identifying areas that might desire our attention. You can read more about it here --> https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newHTE_93.htm

But, I took it a step further though, adapting the Wheel of Life into the horoscope of 12 houses:

Astro-Wheel of LIfe

Create the Astro-Wheel of Live

What you do is, at the start of each house, give it a score of 0 - 10. Zero means you do not engage with the activities of this house in any way, shape or form. Ten means you're rocking it to the moon.

Next, connect the dots to get a map or where you are putting your focus and where you are not.

If the intention is to live a balanced life, or if you find you have personal planets in a house that you don't touch with a ten fool poll, or if there is 'nothing happening' in a house with massive transit activity, you might want to tune in, listen and explore.

Ask, 'What am I resisting?'

We'll talk about activation techniques here so please feel free to share your results.

Here's my example for January 2016. I'm going to go through it again and see if there is a shift, and also do it over a chart with transits!

Astro-Wheel of LIfe

Example of the Astro-Wheel of Live at Work

I'm pretty sure these results can vary according to mood and general vibe, but it's basically the same as January.

Note that Neptune and Chiron by transit aren't getting much of a look-in when it comes to the 7th house. I will say that my biz partnerships are up, but there's a strong 'lone wolf' in me right now that could easily be resistance to Neptune or the illusion of loss.

Astro-Wheel of LIfe example

Soon I'll be signing a book contract, so my plan is to OPEN my heart to the 7th, fearlessly and with compassion. No more hiding! Pisces is where we can 'disappear' which is cool for 12th house activities but I want to find a way to make this work in the 7th.

Thoughts are welcome in the comments.

Part of Fortune

Part of Fortune

GVA Members Post

This is a quick tutorial, but if you spend a little time working it by hand, you’ll have a chance to engage more deeply with what this point represents.

What is the Part of Fortune?

Part of FortuneThe Part of Fortune (not to be confused with asteroid 19 Fortuna) is a point in the chart that indicates a certain kind of well being. Think abundance, richness, happiness and joy. Knowing where this point is in your natal chart can be a key to tapping into your own personal brand of fulfillment. The symbol for the Part of Fortune is the circle with an X (astro.com uses a cross though that is traditionally the symbol for Earth).

A little history: The Arabic parts or lots are points in the chart combining planets and angles. They aren’t really all Arabic, but were compiled in 1029 AD by an Arab, so they copped the tag. Some definitely predate Islamic astrology.

We’re going to focus on the Part of Fortune in this hack, but know there are many Arabic parts from the Part of Action to the Part of Health to the Part of Marriage, Part of Disgrace . . . (oh boy). Choose wisely which of these you focus on as energy follows thought . . .

Important Note: The POF is always the same distance from the Ascendant as the Moon is from the sun. In other words, the POF is symbolic of the Sun/Moon phase. So if you have a New Moon the POF will be in the first, full moon, POF in 7th, first or third quarter, 10th or 4th.

Also note, the point 180 opposite the POF is called the Part of Spirit. You might want to play with that too.

Finding the Part of Fortune

Find Part of FortuneCalculation Via Computer: This is easily done at Astro.com by including it in extended chart selection.

  1. click “My Astro”
  2. click the natal chart you want to view
  3. scroll down to “Extended Chart Selection”
  4. scroll down on the left hand side to “Additional Objects”
  5. choose Part of Fortune
  6. create chart

If you want to try it, calculating by hand is a way to connect to the meaning of the POF more literally. Follow this tutorial on Youtube.

Part of Fortune TutorialHomework

Find your Part of Fortune and note what modality, element and house it is in. What planet “rules” the sign your POF is in?
How do you nurture this part of you? Activities of the house? Feeding it by element? Modality? House activity?

Before we start discussing the Part of Fortune, comparing different placements, feel free to watch this short tutorial on the Day/Night Part of Fortune. Those with a nighttime birth will be particularly interested.

As an example of how the POF might function in a chart, look at this natal horoscope above. Before I reveal who it is, list a few things that you imagine would resonate for them. What might really light this person up, or bring them success, abundance, health and joy? We aren’t trying to guess who it is, but, using what we know about the Part of Fortune, what do you think happiness looks like to them?

Example Chart

The chart above belongs to Charles Dickens ...

Not just an amazing storyteller (POF in 3rd), his critical social commentary slammed the class system in Victorian society. He shocked readers (POF conjunct Uranus) out of complacency, revealing the ugly, horrific truths of poverty and injustice. His works are deeply emotional, dark and fearless in the exploration of death, grief and transformation (POF in Scorpio).

He had audacity, speaking out against slavery while touring in the South. He used his celebrity status as a platform for social change, and people listened. His love of debate was evident in Bleak House with its court cases and legal arguments. True to Scrop, when he killed off one of the main, and most sympathetic, characters in the serialized “Old Curiosity Shop” his readers where so shocked, so outraged, he received hundreds of death threats. But they kept reading. His popularity was unprecedented in his time. Any time!

Note, sun in the 5th, in Aquarius, he had 10 children and fought for children’s rights and education.

I think dying with his last novel, one unlike any of the others, half finished, is POF in Scorp in the 3rd’s way of singing off. or flipping us off. He grew more and more critical with age. (Saturn in the 4th?)

Read about his life with his chart in hand. It’s amazing to connect the dots.

Extra Credit

In ancient times, the Part of Fortune represented another kind of house system. Whatever sign the POF was in, that becomes 0 degrees of the Ascendant. In the chart above, the “Fortune” chart would turn the dial clockwise until 0 Scorpio was on the Ascendant. They’d use whole houses, so 0 Sagittarius would be on the 2nd house cusp, 0 Capricorn on the 3rd etc. It would be used to guide prosperity and health.

Try this, for fun, but only if you feel ready to take it further. There’s plenty to discover with the POF by house and sign, in your natal chart! Do what feels good. No stress.

Keep it simple.

Here are some key words to get your started with POF by sign and by house.

Nail that first before you head to aspect and transit land.

Part of Fortune in Aries needs to feel adventurous, questing, challenging, leading and winning.
Part of Fortune in Taurus needs to feel sensual, practical in natural ways with tangible results.
Part of Fortune in Gemini needs to feel intellectual, communicative, teaching and learning.
Part of Fortune in Cancer needs to feel needed, nurturing, protective and comforting.

Part of Fortune in Sagittarius needs to feel expansive, exploratory, meaningful and energized.
Part of Fortune in Capricorn needs to feel ambitious, productive, achieving and recognized.
Part of Fortune in Aquarius needs to feel detached, knowledgeable, humanitarian and free.
Part of Fortune in Pisces needs to feel merged, understood, compassionate and connected.

Four Basic Building Blocks of Astrology

Astrology Building Blocks
Astrology Building Blocks - 3 minute tutorial on Youtube

Learn the Four Basic Astrology Building Blocks

Hi Everyone! For those just starting out, this Video Tutorial will show you the four basic Astrology Building Blocks , the constructs of the horoscope or natal chart. This includes groundwork on the  planets, signs, houses and aspects - in under 3 minutes!

A Metaphor for the Astrology Building Blocks

Think of Astrology as a symbol system where the planets are the actors. The the signs are the their costumes they wear. The houses are the stages, the sets they act upon, and the aspects are the scripts they’ve been handed. How they are scripted to interrelate.

Remember, YOU are the director, and you call the shots, decide when to say Action and when to say cut!

Exercises for learning the basic Astrology Building Blocks

  • Learn to recognize and draw the planetary glyphs. Follow the online tutorial for help there - learn to draw the signs and learn how to draw the planetary glyphs.
  • Spot each of your planets in your chart and note which sign and house they are in. This goes into your notebook. Leave room under each entry to add more insights and data as you go along.
  • Add planetary themes and energies to your notebook, Pinterest astrology board or vision board.

Midpoint Magic

Midpoint Magic grid

Hi Everyone, it's Kim Falconer here with a tutorial on the very cool and useful midpoint magic.

midpoint
noun
noun: midpoint; plural noun: midpoints; noun: mid-point; plural noun: mid-points
  1. the exact middle point.

The Midpoint Magic

Midpoints in astrology are the half-way points between two planets, points or angles in the horoscopic wheel or chart. (Like the half-way point between your Sun and Moon, or between your Ascendant and Mars.) The emphasis here is on wheel. Don't forget we are working with a 360 degree circle. It's simply geometry. Midpoints are going to be your friends, once you learn how to find them, and integrate the symbolic meaning. You'll also learn here how to find transiting midpoints and what they might mean. Let's get started!

Midpoints are plotted by finding the midway mark between two given planets or points.  Watch this 8 minute video  midpoint tutorial for the basics. Then we'll go through the steps, one by one.

screen-shot-2016-11-05-at-3-30-49-pm
Youtube Midpoint Tutorial

Let's put the Midpoint Magic into practice.

If a person’s sun is 1 degree of Aries and their Venus is 1 degree of Leo, the Sun/Venus midpoint will fall in two opposing places: the nearer midpoint at 1 degree Gemini, and the farther midpoint directly opposite at 1 degree Sagittarius.

Because the horoscope is spherical (a wheel or circle with 360 degrees) and not a linear stack, there will always be two midpoints exactly 180 degrees apart for every combination of planets.  One will form a shorter arc and the other a longer one.  The shorter arc is generally considered stronger, though both are important.

Often it's not easy to see the midpoint at a glance and the quickest way of making an accurate list of them is to follow this simple formula:

FORMULA:  Reduce the planetary positions to their degrees of the circle, add them together and divide by two

Let me explain with an example:

To find the midpoint of natal Moon and Sun when the Moon is 15 degrees Aries 18 minutes and the Sun 27 degrees Scorpio 35 minutes, we reduced the Moon to 15.18 and the Sun to 237.35. Added together equals 252.53. Divide divided by 2 gives a far midpoint of 126.26 or 6 degrees Leo 26 minutes and a nearer midpoint of the exact opposite of 6 degrees Aquarius 26 minutes. The following list reinterprets the signs into degrees of the circle making it easy to convert the degrees of the signs into a degree of the circle, and then back again.

Aries                           0
Taurus                       30
Gemini                       60
Cancer                       90
Leo                           120
Virgo                        150
Libra                         180
Scorpio                     210
Sagittarius                 240
Capricorn                  270
Aquarius                    300
Pisces                        330

Practice finding the Midpoint magic in your chart

I'd love everyone to pull up there charts and find their Sun/Moon midpoint now, using this method. If you get stuck, give us a shout out, in the comments.

The midpoints are a blend of the two planets involved and their sign and house placement can indicate where and how that energy can best express. For example the Sun/Moon midpoint represents a merging of yin and yang, conscious and unconscious, male and female. Where this midpoint falls in the chart can represent marriage, creative genius AND practical application, friendship and love. When it is activated by transit (Uranus on Su/Mo for example) or by another person (someone's Venus on your Su/Mo) it can 'wake up' desires for balance, harmony, creative expression, nurturing and love combined. Make sense? Reinhold Ebertin has written extensively on midpoints. If you want to delve deeper, definitely start with The Combination of Stellar Influences.

The composite or ‘relationship’ horoscope is a chart derived from the midpoints between two natal charts

See my article on Astro - Compatibility for more details

It can be drawn in different ways but basically it is a chart of the midpoints between two natal horoscopes (Person A’s Sun and Person B’s Sun, Person A's Moon and Person B's Moon etc). The new planetary positions are then plotted in a third chart created from a composite (midpoint) Ascendant and Midheaven.  Although the points do not represent any specific moment in time like a natal or even progressed chart does, it symbolically reflects the nature of the relationship, an entity unto itself. So if you work with composite charts, you are already using midpoints.

Homework for Midpoint Magic

    1. Find two midpoints in your natal chart, the Sun/Moon and the Venus/Jupiter. Plot them in your chart. You will now have FOUR new points in the chart involving two PAIRS of houses. Think about that this might mean in terms of Su/Mo- relationship, self-love, love, partnership, friendship, and Ve/Ju - Joy, happiness, expansion, abundance, core values.

Note if there are any planets conjunct these midpoints. What influence would that bring.

Note if there are any transits coming up to these midpoints.

2. Finally, pick two TRANSITING planets that interest you and find their midpoints. Where do those fall in your chart. For example, Mars at 6 Saggo and Saturn at 9 Saggo make the Ma/Sa midpoint 7.5 Saggo and 7.5 Gemini. That would be an area of YOUR chart where you are driving with the brakes on.

midpoints_astr_com-am3. When you get a handle on finding midpoints by hand, you can double check your work by clicking on your chart at Astro.com, then click Extended Chart Selection. From there, click on PULLEN/ASTROLOG and Aspects/midpoint grid chart.

Let me know what you discover, or if you need help with the maths.

This is an excellent tool for your astro-toolbox so I hope you all give it a go.

Horary Astrology 101

Horary Astrology

Hi everyone, Kimmy here with one of my favorite applications  – the Horary Astrology Chart.

What is Horary Astrology?

Horary Astrology is a deep and ancient practice, not learned in a single sitting, so don’t panic if you feel lost in places. This tutorial is to help you understand what Horary Astrology is, how it works and some of the rules to reading these incredibly insightful charts. If you’re interested in learning more, it’s a lifetime’s study, and very rewarding.

Horary comes from the Greek hora or “hourly”, the root used in words like horoscope and horometry – art of the measurement of time.

The first step in understanding horary astrology is to consider what the astrological chart is: a moment of time depicted in symbolic form. This horo-scope (looking at the hour) can be cast for a person, place or thing. In the case of Horary, it is the chart of a QUESTION and in the chart of the question is always the answer.

How Does it Work?

Because like attracts like, whatever is ‘born’ at a certain moment in time has a relationship to that moment’s energy signature. In other words, it is a reflection or ‘trail’ of the energy. Note: The chart reflects the natural expression of a person, place or thing, not the other way around.  So, I’m not communicative because I was born with the sun Gemini. I was born with Sun and Mercury in Gemini because I am communicative.

The Question

In the case of the Horary chart, we can see this link very clearly. Question and answer, like two sides to the same coin, are contained in the energy of the moment it is asked. That energy is symbolized by the astrological chart. Have a burning question? When it’s ripe, you ask it, wording it clearly, and create a chart for that date, time and place. If a client asks the question, you do a chart for the moment you HEAR it (or read it in an email) and set the PLACE for THEIR location. That’s the horary chart set up, plain and simple.

Now comes the complexities. There are strict rules about reading a horary chart, the most important being, you can’t ask the same question twice (it’s like tarot in this instance) unless something major has changed in the situation.

Three Rules to Memorize

The next three rules you can commit to memory. They determine if the chart of your questions is “Radical and fit to read.” Using the chart above as the example, let’s see if it’s readable as a Horary Chart:

  1. You must have more than 3 degrees and less than 27 degrees on the Ascendant? Check. (If there are less than three degrees, we say, “It’s too soon to tell.” If More than 27 degrees, “It’s too late to tell.” There are exceptions, but learn this rule first.
  2. The moon must be applying to one or more planets (ie NOT Void of Course). If VOC, the answer is immediate, “Nothing to worry about, or nothing will come of the question.” Because there are no applying aspects, no action will follow.
  3. Saturn is NOT in the 7th house (if so, there is something wrong with the question, timing or astrologer).

An Example Chart

1) 7 degrees on the Asc – CHECK.

2) Moon applying to Mars and the Sun, CHECK.

3) Saturn is not in the 7th, CHECK.

Reading the Chart

Now, to the question. Let’s say this question was from a client who had lost there cat. They asked “Where is my missing cat?” You want to phrase the question as specifically as possible. Vague questions yield vague answers, so make them tight. If someone is asking you face to face or in real time, dialog with them until it’s as specific as possible.

With horary, you need to know, or look up, your rulerships. With missing possessions, we focus on the 2nd house (the house of ‘movable things’), and for a missing pet, we focus on the 6th house. That means we check the ruler of the 6th, the co-ruler Moon, the natural ruler Mercury and the dispositor of the Part of Fortune. If any of these are angular (in houses 1, 4, 7, or 10) the missing kitty is near the home or where she ‘ought’ to be. In this case, the dispositor of the POF is Mercury, and Mercury itself (natural ruler of the 6th) is in the 10th house so the animal isn’t so much lost/stolen but has hidden herself. (When I drew up this chart, I did ask the question, “Where is Ra?” my cat, who wasn’t in any of the usual places.)

Where is the Missing Cat?

In horary charts, where you find the planet that rules the question, you find the answer, or missing putty-tat. In this case Jupiter traditionally rules Pisces, found on the 6th house cusp. Jupiter is in the 11th house, so I take the directions of the compass as it related to the chart (where the 1st house is East and the 10th is South) and go to the SSE area of the home/yard (the 11th house ids SSE). Kitty will be in that quadrant. Then I look South by West (for Virgo) and ground level for Earth signs. Because Jupiter is near a cusp, we know to look near a gate, door or window. Again,my kit isn’t actually missing, but I have no idea where he is right now. Hang tight while I go look specifically where the chart has indicated.

The Answer

Ta-Da! Okay, sure enough, Ra was asleep on a pile of leaves on the ground, in the SSE quadrant of the yard, SSW corner, of that quadrant, tucked up next to the gate post – hidden from view and slightly annoyed at being awakened.

Usually, if the pet is missing, you won’t find indicators that place them in the home, like this example, but ask Mystic about it. I have ‘found’ her missing cat on more than a few occasions. There are ways to work out how many miles/KM they are from the last known whereabouts, if another person has them etc etc.

Example Horary Astrology Questions

Another example, and common question for horary is, “Will this relationship be the one?”

To answer this questions, after you check the first three indicators, you look to the relationship between the ruler of the 1st (the person asking the questions) and the ruler of the 7th (the ‘other’). If there is no applying aspect, not much is connecting them, but we also check the co-ruler moon (the moon is always the co-ruler of any question) and if there is an aspect between moon and the rulers of the questions, you have a bond, of some kind. In this example case, it’s not ideal, unless you like to be challenged!

Check the Rules

screen-shot-2016-11-05-at-1-57-48-pmThe rulers of the Asc and 7th houses are Mars and Venus. Venus is applying to a square, but, you have to check if she will complete the square before Mars changes signs. We do that by checking the ephemeris. And, no. Mars moves out of sign before Venus can complete the exact square. We can’t count it.

But, we have the co-ruler moon making a square from Aquarius, and the moon will complete the aspect before Mars moves even a degree. We can say, just from this, that the relationship is intense, challenging, possibly compulsive, and may not be headed in the direction the client wants it to go. But if both people have a strong Mars/Aries, like their connections with a bit of clash, it can be great. It’s not everyone’s favorite though. Both rulers (Venus and Mars) are angular so no ones backing down here. To know how the client feels about the outcome, we check the final aspect of the moon before she goes VOC. In this case, it’s inconjunct (150 degrees) to the Sun, suggesting things take a sudden and different turn, a detour. A third person could be involved. (perhaps there is a child, aging parent or ex to consider).

To know what underlying emotion triggered the question, look to the moons previous conjunction, no matter how far back you have to go. In the example chart, that previous conjunction of the moon was Pluto in the third (and here I am teaching (3rd house) occult material (Pluto)) Cool, right?

Horary Astrology 101 Summary

Through the positions of the planets, the question, it’s background, and where the energy is currently headed is fully described. It works like this:

Everything is energy.

Energy vibrates.

The signature of the vibration is a perfect match to the moment of ‘birth’ be it a person, business, relationship or idea.

Basically, the symbolism in the chart reflects the energy of the manifestation, and we can learn how to ‘read’ that energy, via the horoscope. Reading the Horary chart is less interpretive than it sounds. There are ancient, and very specific rules to the craft. Learn them, and you’ll be amazed at the information embedded in a single moment of time.

If you want to pursue this branch of astrology, find yourself a copy of Ivy Goldstein Jacobson. If you have a question or want to play with ‘turning the chart’ let’s do that here with this example. (Turning the Wheel: This is where you want to know, for example, about your daughter’s relationships and we turn the chart to put the 5th house (children) on the Asc, which makes the 11th house the new 7th. Better news for this “daughter” and her BF as Saturn (ruler of the new Asc) is trine the sun by sign, (ruler of the new 7th) but out of orb. The co-ruler moon is inconjunct, meaning there is a strain, or consideration from a 3rd party … Maybe the inquiring mother?) Fun stuff!
