First of all, the Lunar Nodes are points that mark the crossing of the Moon, north and south, over the ecliptic. (That’s the imaginary path of the sun around the Earth.) The Mean Lunar Nodes progress in a retrograde direction, taking 18.6 years to complete a cycle backwards through the zodiac.
Youtube Tutorial on the Lunar Nodes
For a brief overview of the Lunar Nodes, how they relate to Source energy, your path and your past, watch the new video tutorial.
The Nodes are significant points that offer meaningful and applicable guide posts in any astrological interpretation.
“[The Nodes] link together the solar principle, the lunar principle and the principle of the Earth. The points are derived through the movement of those three bodies, and I actually think the Nodes are an attempt…to balance solar principles and lunar principles within the body on the earth plane. In some ways, the Nodes indicate a struggle between the pull of the past and new qualities or traits or choices that need to be made.” –Howard Sasportas
Note the Nodes represent a pull in opposite directions
The South Lunar Node, also known as the Dragon’s Tail or Cauda Draconis, pulls us into the direction of the past. This represents instinctive desires that call us back to a place where we feel, if not comfortable, at least familiar. Like the Moon and her association with intuitive impulses, the South Lunar Node can operate unconsciously. It’s often an automatic response.
The North Lunar Node, the Dragon’s Head or Caput Draconis, pulls us into the future. It represents the areas of life where we can, with conscious effort and choice, break new ground and obtain valuable new experiences. Like the Sun, the North Lunar Node, when approached with courage, awareness and a sense of new possibilities, brings consciousness and growth.
Remember, the two Nodes are always diametrically opposite, in opposing signs and houses.
The Lunar Nodes also pertain to people. An activated South Node can indicate a person from the past that suddenly pops back into your life. More often than not, these South Node people require help or assistance from us. Even those with a personal planet sign corresponding to our South Node sign can seem to always need help.
An activated North Node, can indicate new people that enter the life offering opportunity, alliance and aid. Transits and progressions here can indicate someone new presenting a challenge, opening or fresh direction.
True or Mean Lunar Nodes
The terms True Node or Mean Node refer to the same thing, the position of the lunar nodes, but they represent different ways of calculating them. It’s a matter of mathematics. The true node takes in the ‘wobble’ of the nodes and includes direct and retrograde motions. The mean node is an average and is always retrograde. True or Mean, they are never more than a degree or two apart. Astrologers don’t agree on which is ‘best’ but given the closeness, either preference will give insights and results.
The North Node into Leo
As the nodes transit clockwise, or retrograde, the NN goes from 0 Virgo to 29 Leo on April 28, 2017 (True Node) and May 10, 2017 (Mean Node). Note that Leo is about developing creative self expression, and Aquarius is about group dynamics, being one of the many.
This is going to activate your Leo — Aquarius houses over the next 2 + years, so look there to where you 1) shine in your own right vs. rely on friends or groups to define you. The idea, remember, is to create balance.
The transit will be crossing my Ascendant (0 Vi or 29 Le depending on which birth time I use.) I’ll be noting inner and outer events at that time, and incorporating the nodal alignment with my manifesting practices.
